Chapter 46 - Aranar

Start from the beginning

" ...Ahsoka?" looking down at her face, her eyelids were fluttering slightly as they fought against the Numbnilling.

"(Y/N)?"

A gasp of relief, of joy echoed in the otherwise quiet room. My heart seemed to burst with light as it caught up to the realisation that she was very much alive. Laughter mixing with tears overtook me and I held her close once again, now feeling her chest heaving steadier breaths of air as the serum slowly seemed to leave her system.

"Oh Ka'ra, I-I thought you were dead! On the cruiser I s-saw you fall before Grievous and- and you weren't moving, I tried to call your name b-but you didn't answer! And now- you were so still I–"

"(Y/N)?"

Catching myself from my unnecessary rambling I cleared my throat and looked down at her again, letting her sit on her own. Her bright eyes were still slightly dimmed over by the Numbnilling but they were awake and I could see that she was fully aware of the situation, "Sorry, yes– yes, Ahsoka?"

Her lips formed a tired smile as she observed my wrecked self. It must've been quite the sight, "Grievous only knocked me unconscious, aside from the headache I'm okay."

I nodded, I didn't trust my voice enough to speak just yet.

Ahsoka searched around as I helped her up from the floor, making sure to hold on to her in case her legs gave out from underneath her, "Where are we?"

I chuckled to myself as I cast a quick glance at the bare room we were in, "I have no idea which planet, much less system, but my guess is Grievous's lair. He said on the cruiser that our showing only made his visit more effective. My guess is that he wanted to be found as he came onboard. But why we were taken with him, I'm still not quite sure as to why."

Ahsoka felt her waist for her lightsabers, which of course were not there, "Shit! Guess he's smarter than I think."

A breath of laughter escaped me, "Language Ka'ra."

She deadpanned me and shook her head.

Making sure that her legs felt stable I let go of her so she could stand on her own. I tracked back to where I had woken up and felt around on the walls as I went. I was hoping to find some sort of door, maybe it could be broken or lock picked. Finding it in the right hand corner of where I woke up, I let my hands slide along it to make out details. The low light in the middle didn't reach quite this far out and the difference in lighting messed with my eyes. Especially after the Numbnilling serum that seemed to have been quite a big dose.

Behind me I could feel Ahsoka reaching out within the Force to sense any creatures nearby and try to get a feel for the place we were locked in. As I felt around what seemed to be the place where the lock was located, she suddenly spoke up in alarm.

"Someone's coming!"

Not a second later did I hear a very faint metallic clanking rhythm get closer to the door. I backed away from the door and reached out my left arm to keep Ahsoka behind me, "Stay close to me."

"I can handle myself, you know?"

"I know, but I don't want you near that fucker again."

"Language (Y/N)."

I rolled my eyes and quickly retorted, "Just– please do as I say. I couldn't live with myself if I lost you." The words, although true, weighed heavy in my heart. In the few seconds before the lock on the door became undone, thoughts of her actually dying because of me swam darkly in my mind. Seeing her bright eyes dim to nothingness. It pained me beyond belief and to think that it was my fault on top of that was unbearable. I knew it then, whatever it took, I had to protect her. No matter what. Even if that meant exposing my connection to the Force or using my lightsaber. At the thought of my lightsaber, I realised that I was no longer wearing my jacket. Oh no.
