Chapter 48 - Ash'ad

Start from the beginning

Of course the MagnaGuards didn't speak, but I wasn't expecting a reply either, it was simply instinctive to throw it at them for shoving me.

EVA however apparently took somewhat of an interest in my knowledge of Mando'a, "You are Mandalorian and Jedi?"

Starting our walk through the winding halls towards Grievous' office, I decided to entertain the idea of conversation, "No. I'm no Mandalorian, I only know the language and culture through teachings. And I'm not a Jedi, I'm simply a Force wielder."

"You carry a lightsaber and can use the Force, Jedi."

Already being ticked off by the harsh shove to the floor, my temperament flared and I balled my hands into fists to suppress it, "By those standards Count Dooku would be qualified a Jedi then."

Mentioning his name, EVA seemed to instantly become annoyed, "Oh please! Do not get me started on that man. Even if Grievous was not my master, I would still think that he makes a better war lord than that Count!"

Oh? Either EVA has some personal history with the Count, or they gained their dislike of him through Grievous.

I was about to retort something about sucking up to their master when we passed an open door that led into a room I hadn't seen before. Flicking my eyes over I saw a statue in the room, it was of someone with a slim build that held the head of a Nautolan male. It was odd. As we passed, it seemed as time slowed down for me to take in the sight. The victory pose was off-putting and I had no idea who it was supposed to represent. Why would he have this? It was within the reptilian family and they had shorter tusks on the upper jaw and slightly longer ones on their jaw. Their fingers were long and widespread, indicating a strong grip. Like Taun-Tauns they walked on the front portion of their feet, causing them to have a short heel muscle, as if they were tip-toeing.

" –mean he can't even handle the smallest of tasks! That man has more credits than he does mind I'll tell you what."

I hummed in agreement, not knowing who we were discussing anymore. The statue burned in my memory as my subconsciousness told me that there was more to it than simply being off-putting. Taking a right turn, we passed yet another open door with another statue inside. Sculpted in a victory pose again, the unknown hero was the same as the one before. But this time, one of the legs was different. They had a mechanical left leg. Further along there was yet another statute, this time with the entire bottom half being mechanical as well as the entire left arm. It seemed as the sculpted being took on more and more mechanical bodily modifications. I had seen it on a gang of youths a few years back on Dayu when I was doing business for an engine part. But this was not something small to enhance vision or strength. This was a complete swap from organic body parts to mechanical ones. This pose, victorious like the last, had its head angled towards the onlooker. Almost as if to challenge them to question its ability to slay foes. The eyes were narrow and cold, but at the same time they burned with glee at the successful killing. Ruthless altogether.

At the sight of the third statue I stopped walking. Studying the statue, there was something about the head that looked familiar. Was it the shape? Maybe...? Tilting my head I deducted that it wasn't the shape of the head. This was annoying beyond belief. I knew the answer, it was at the tip of my tongue but I could not piece it together.

"Guards, master is waiting."

EVA's words brought them to once again grab ahold of my arms to drag me forwards. Noticing that there was an engraving at the bottom of it, I craned my neck to read it before it disappeared from my view.
