Then Jungkook had gone and talked about the man he
wanted who he didn't deserve.

Fuck that.

No man was good enough for Jungkook and that was that,
not the other way around.

Some of this had to be down to his shitty fucking father and the way he'd treated Jungkook when he was growing up but trying
to get Jungkook to talk about
it was a no-go.

He'd laughed himself nearly sick the one time I'd mentioned he talk with a therapist, Maybe it was time to bring that up again.

Shit.

Wait.

That's what was bothering me
all the way to my bones.

The idea of Jungkook liking another alpha. I'm jealous.

Not that I had a right to be
but there it was.

It also worried me that my
sweet best friend kept putting himself behind closed doors
with shitty guys.

I hated to think about some
of the unpleasant intimate situations he might have been
in over the years.

"What?" Jih asked, returning
with his green tea and a file tucked under his arm.

Hell, had I said that last part
out loud? I was clearly losing it.

I just wished I could tell Jungkook how wrong he was about himself and show him
just how a decent alpha should treat him

Jih slapped down the file on
my desk, pulling his chair alongside mine.

I opened the folder and the
face of Miguel stared up at me.

He was unsmiling, with murder
in his eyes and that was all it took for me to pull my head
out of my ass and get to work.

I cared about all my cases to the point that Jih would sometimes warn me to stay detached so
that each one wouldn't take
me down with it.

Unfortunately, this case was particularly close to my heart.

This wasn't just a case.

This was about family.

As I flipped through the folder,
all the pertinent details of this clusterfuck flew through my
mind at top speed.

A few months ago hobi's father, Jung Young had been killed in
a shooting.

It was a shit wreck of a thing
and had utterly devastated
hobi, who had been close
with his father.

They had had the kind of relationship I wish I'd been able to build with my own dad but we'd never had the dynamic those two did.

When his dad was killed, hobi
fell apart and then tripped ass backwards into Tae's arms, a man who was his father's best friend and the lawyer who had been working on putting away one of the biggest crime bosses in the state.

The mug shot of Miguel, the hitman who had fired the bullet, stared up at me from the folder where it was paper-clipped to
the front corner of the cover.

He was currently sitting in our interrogation room waiting
for Jih and me to arrive.

I knew this case back to front and didn't need any kind of refresher from this folder but
I still stayed another moment staring at the pages.

Dragging in a deep breath, I mentally prepared for what
was to come.

We had everything we needed, including enough evidence to put this two-bit hitman away but
we didn't have a confession yet.
