CHAPTER FOUR: Calm Before The Storm

Start from the beginning

"Ian Malcolm, nice to meet you, um, little man!" He shook his hand formally, and that alone boosted Tim's ego. I smiled.

"Let's go then, hm?" I interrupted, taking him by the shoulder to direct him toward the entrance. "You got your sister with you?"

"Yep! She'll be happy to see you!"

"I bet."

We walked out of the building together, and I couldn't miss the way everyone was giving us a certain look once they have seen Ian and me together. I ignored Ellie's knowing look as I let Lex hug me, waiting for her excitement level to drop. My uncle didn't seem very joyous as he looked at Ian, whose glasses were back in place as he burned alive in the sun in all those black clothes.

I let my eyes trail down on him, only now noticing that the top of his shirt was unbuttoned, leaving his collarbone bare while showing off a necklace. He caught me staring, I was certain because by the time I raised my eyes back to his, there was a very obvious smirk on his lips. Suddenly, everything felt a thousand times more interesting.

"These will be your transports for the afternoon," My uncle walked over to me, probably telling me because I was late. Ian was close by, but he didn't spare him one look. "No drivers as they are electric. Rooming with the kids?"

"Not sure," I replied, my eyes skidding over to Ian momentarily. It didn't go unnoticed by John.

"You better," He sighed. "Treat this as a business trip, not a trip to love island."

I kept myself from gaping as he walked by, looking down to see Lex give me a perplexed look. Then, slowly, she turned her head to Ian, who stepped closer to me, and her expression quickly relaxed into something else. Overall, she just wiggled her eyebrows at me.

"Lex," I reprimanded her, but she paid no mind to me as she walked over to her brother. I really hoped she wasn't about to tell on me.

Except there was basically nothing to tell. Ian and I were anything but a thing, and we could hardly be after only knowing each other for half a day. I didn't want to be delusional; it was clear that Ian Malcolm was somewhat of a player. He flirted with Ellie, he flirted with female staff, it was obvious. I wasn't special. I had enough exes, and there was no way I was gaining another one. Believe me.

"Get in now!" I heard my uncle say, so I snapped out of my trance and looked at my cousins.

"You are coming with us, right?" Tim walked over with a book in his hands, seemingly upset.

"Dr. Grant just brushed us off," Lex joined in. "But you can sit with...Dr. Malcolm if you want to..."

"Lex," I warned quickly, but the damage was done as he looked my way expectantly, his hands pushed into his pockets. I noticed how close he was standing to me, his sweet cologne, and how his curly hair hung over his ears just a little.

"Earth to Maya!" Tim shook me by my arm. "You are coming with us!"

And with that, Tim got into the car, and Lex soon followed, so I gave one last apologetic look to Ian and sat into the car as well. Lex got the front seat before I could put my hands on it, so I was locked in the back with Tim. I was surprised to see the lawyer getting into the driver's seat, shooting me a grin as if we were such good friends.

I blinked as the cars got going, looking out through the window with a strange feeling in my stomach. John's voice came through the speaker as he began the tour, the car passing the large gates with the writing; Jurassic Park. I realized quickly why I felt icky about the whole thing. It was because we were the lab rats here. We, as test subjects would go for the first ride through this whole park and experience it first-hand. That might not have sounded bad for most, but if we were the testers, that meant that anything could go wrong, and we would be the ones suffering from it.
