CHAPTER SIX: Wet And Sore

Start from the beginning

Ian was asleep beside me, although in the same uncomfortable position as I was in, one of his arms still firmly wrapped around my waist. I tried to move, but he wasn't very keen on letting go, so I lightly shook him by his shoulder, attempting to wake him up. He simply groaned, tightening his grip and pulling me even closer like I was some plush animal, almost ending up on his lap.

"Ian, get up," I murmured, placing my hands on his chest to keep a safe distance between us. "Get up!"

"Can't we sleep a bit more?" He asked, his voice hoarse as he squinted against the sunlight. "You are, um, really pretty when you get your sleep."

"That's such a backhanded compliment!" I rolled my eyes, feeling my face flush despite his lame comment. "Can you let me go now? Do you like hugging things in your sleep?"

"Not only in my sleep," He let his hands fall from me and started rubbing away the sleep from his eyes.

I finally leaned back, stretching my arms a little as I looked down to see how far up we were. I really didn't think I climbed this high at night, but those were the perks of not seeing anything in the dark. Not being scared to climb too high up.

"We should find Alan and my cousins," I said with determination, sliding to the side of the branch to see how I can get down the easiest. "Crap, my whole body is sore."

"Too bad it's not because of me," Ian commented, making me roll my eyes again as I carefully dropped down onto the bench below me.

"Careful on the way down," I looked up at him one more time. "Another comment like this and I might push you. Accidentally."

I heard his laugh as I began making my way down the tree, watching out for my footing so I wouldn't fall. I finally dropped down to the solid ground after a minute or two, taking a deep breath as I looked around to make sure I was alone. I really didn't want to see any dinosaur peeking at me, otherwise, I would be on top of the tree in a matter of seconds.

Ian got down beside me, brushing his hands together to get off all the dirt. I watched him stretch a little, probably feeling just as sore as I was, then looked down to the ground, only to see a pair of footsteps leaving in another direction. I turned back to Ian with wide eyes, pointing down at them with glee.

"Those are probably Alan's, right?" I spoke, although they didn't seem as fresh as I wished them to be.

"Unless the dinos, um, learned to wear shoes then yeah, I guess those are his," Ian sighed next to me. "Let's follow them, maybe we will bump into them."

"Okay," I nodded in agreement. "But what if we won't find them?"

"We try to get back to the main building where everyone else is," He explained, beginning to walk in the direction of the footsteps. "I got lucky with you since you are a relative of John."

"And why is that so good?" I raised an eyebrow his way.

"That means that, um, they won't leave us here. If they decide to evacuate, your uncle would still try to find you."

"Honestly, I doubt it," I sighed, pushing a strand of hair behind my ear. "He would save himself first... Although he would be surely saving his grandkids, so with your theory, we should find them as soon as we can."

"Uh, imagine being stuck here together," Ian grinned my way. "What would we do..."

"I'm sure you'd have many ideas," I mumbled monotonously, but my mouth was still quirking upward, even though I desperately tried to fight the smile off. He turned to me.

"Oh, don't tell me Maya that you wouldn't have any." His tone was low and I bit my lip to keep myself from giving him a reaction. "You're cute when you get all flustered."

"I'm not flustered," I denied, meeting his eyes for a second, but immediately regretting it. His eyes captivated me as I stared into them, getting more and more hooded as he looked down at me. "Why are you looking at me like that?"

"Like, um, what?" He questioned, but he was sporting a wider grin now, so I chose not to say anything.

I looked forward, keeping an eye roll from surfacing as I noticed a large fallen-over tree, along with a blonde head behind it. I whipped my head back to Ian, who was still looking at me, so I reached up to redirect his head by getting a hold of his jaw. He probably thought that I wanted to do something entirely different with my action, as he slouched a little, leaning in toward me before noticing the kids on the other side of the tree.

"What? Were you thinking of something else?" I looked up at him innocently, making him scoff as I yelled out to the kids. "Lex! Tim!"

Once Lex saw me, she came running, jumping over the tree like it was nothing, and pulling me into a bone-crushing hug. I chuckled as I hugged the muddy girl back, patting her head lightly. Tim needed help to get over the tree, so I went to him instead, dragging Lex with me, who was still holding me by the waist.

I looked over the trunk to see Alan sitting there with a nest of broken dinosaur eggs, causing me to freeze for a second before almost getting tackled by Tim over the tree. Of course, they didn't make as good of a job as they claimed. The dinosaurs could still breed, and they didn't 'engineer' them as well as they were supposed to.

"Turns out," Ian jumped over the tree with ease. "I was, uh, right again."

"Of course," Alan sighed, standing up straight. "What happened to you?"

"Skinny dipped in the lake a little," Ian grinned.

"He means we jumped into the lake to get away from the t-rex, then slept on a tree to avoid death," I explained quickly, my voice a bit strained as I was still held pretty tight by the two kids.

"Why can I see you guys doing that though..." Alan trailed off with a sigh, making me choke on air while Ian laughed.

"Are you imagining me naked, Grant?" He clasped a hand on his back, while poor Alan looked at me for help.

"Okay, we have minors around, so no one is imagining anyone naked," I stated, untangling Lex's arms from me, who was slowly cutting off my air source along with Tim. Ian sent me a suggestive look after the words left my mouth, making me sigh.

"Eww..." Tim mumbled as he let go of me.

"Let's just go, now that we are together, we won't have to search for anyone," Alan suggested, suddenly looking a thousand times more tired now that Ian and I showed up.

I was getting too used to Ian's presence to even think about what it would be like without him.
