It tilted its head to the side, its eyes skidding from us to the kitchen door, which was still open, and where its mate was crying, asking for help. Without looking at us once more, it dove straight for the kitchen, startling us with the sudden movement. Ian climbed out a moment later, breathing heavily as he came to join us, and I grabbed him as well, pulling him closer.
The next second, Ellie and Alan fell through the dining room's door, sighing in relief upon seeing us. Tim instantly jumped to Alan, who was holding a gun firmly in his hands, pointing toward the kitchen with one hand.
"It's in there!"
"Control room. Now." Ellie grabbed Lex's free hand, giving me a wide-eyed look as she started retreating through the door.
We ran straight to the control room, pushing past the door quickly. Ellie made her way down the small flight of stairs, limping a little, hurrying to one of the computers.
"We can call for help?" Lex asked hopefully as all of us got through the door and pushed it shut.
"We gotta reboot the system first!" Ellie responded, turning on the computer smoothly in front of her.
I sat on top of one of the desks to take the pressure off my hurting leg, but Ian was at my side a moment later, crouching down to see the wound. The cut was quite long, ranging from my knee to my ankle, blood oozing from it and pooling in my shoes. I winced as he raised my leg slightly to inspect it, gritting my teeth together against the pain.
"The door locks," I heard Alan say. "Ellie, boot up the door locks!"
I turned my head to see the raptor in the small window on the door, peering inside right at Alan, its breath fanning the glass. I grabbed a handful of Ian's hair, rotating it toward the door as no words were coming out of my mouth. He gently got my hand off him as he straightened up, waiting to see what was about to happen.
"The handle," He breathed, looking down at the moving door handle with wide eyes.
Alan grabbed it, trying to twist it back, but the raptor pushed the door open with ease, making the gun drop from Alan's hands. Both Ellie and Ian dove for the door, pushing it to try to keep the raptor outside, leaving the computer unattended.
"Ellie boot up the locks!" Alan mustered a yell as he put his whole weight against the door.
I slid off the desk, wincing as I limped over to the computer where Lex was already sitting. Tim and I leaned onto her chair while she moved the mouse, staring at the screen for a few seconds to see what was in front of her.
"It's a UNIX system, I know this," She whispered, while I exchanged a helpless glance with Tim.
I looked back to the others holding the door with all their might, noticing the gun on the floor, quite close to me. I limped over there, swiftly grabbing it and raising it into the air, pointing at the pair of raptor claws sliding their way in through the small opening. Gritting my teeth, I aimed as best as I could and then pulled the trigger, managing to hit one of the raptor's claws with the bullet. It cried out as a result, flinching away from the door with loud roars, leaving enough time for the others to push the door shut, and turn the locks that Lex got on.
I slumped back against one of the desks, letting the gun fall back to the ground, as I tried to take deep breaths to calm myself down. My ears were ringing from the shot, and I was about to pass out from all the adrenaline going through me, but at least I got the raptor back for almost tearing my leg off.
"Good job," Ian hurried up to me in an instant, taking both of my hands into his. "You got him."
"A leg for a leg," I muttered between two ragged breaths, making him chuckle.
