Chapter 10: A Too-Long Awaited Reunion

You weren't going to get this to break off at this rate, but you were going to keep trying.

Who knows, maybe your adrenaline would give you some sort of super-strength or something.

"Come on! Just a little further!" You spoke to yourself, the edge of the vent beginning to bend ever so slightly under your strength.

The doors behind you hissed, opening slowly.

A path you hadn't taken and didn't get the chance too.

Which meant you didn't know what was on the other side awaiting you.

"Shit! Shit shit shit!" You cursed under your breath, pulling as hard as you could but... it was no use.

Your finger tips were demolished at this point, too bloody to get a good grip, smeared at the edge you were finally beginning to pull up.

With your back to the now open door and hands still frantically grasping for some sort of leverage on the vent, you felt strong arms wrap around you and begin to pull you back.

"No! Stop- Let me go! Please!" You writhed, struggling against it, and flailing as much as you could to get out of the hold.

You didn't want to die here, gripping your bloody hands and pushing hard against the black clothed figure trapping you.

Wait.

"Stop! You are hurting yourself! Can you not see?!" The voice screamed, worry lacing their tone.

You blinked, stopping your struggles slowly before coming to a complete halt.

"Doctor?" Your voice shook, unable to believe what you were seeing.

He came back to you.

He found you.

Swiftly, his arms wrapped around you and held you painfully close, the mask on his face shoved into the crook of your neck.

Abruptly, your emotions quickly came flooding back to you as the adrenaline began to fade away.

Anger, betrayal, and heartbreak.

"You left me... You left me! How could you!" You screamed loudly, feeling your throat become hoarse.

After minutes of screaming at him, sobbing, and struggling against him, you finally gave up. The aching and soreness of your muscles finally caught up to you.

Weakly, you put your head on his shoulder, your tears beginning to let up.

"Never leave me again... please." You begged.

Gently he pulled back, holding your horribly mangled hands carefully in his own.

"Never again. I came as fast as I could once 079 told me what happened. I- I'm still unsure how 035 came upon an 05 keycard but... but I am so so glad you are safe..." 049 said softly, looking down at your wrists, his worry quickly accompanied by anger, "Did he hurt you? Why are you restrained? What happened?"

You shook your head, sniffling, "I-I'm fine! He's the one who got tore apart by the bears. Thankfully, they didn't come after me."

049 began to laugh, letting go of you.

"What? W-Why are you laughing?" You asked, your voice still shaking a little.

"My dear doctor... those were 1048's companions. It rescued you."

You sighed, the feeling of a weight being taken off your shoulders.

"Thank god... 1048? Where is the little guy? Is it ok?" You asked 049.
