"I don't know," Maddy shrugged, putting some of the creamer that Hailey got out in her coffee, "I was home with him and Derek said that he had something to do with his coworkers. He came home around 11 and went to take a shower. I went to go put his clothes in the washer and I found a phone number in his pocket, and it was her. He's been cheating on me, for at least 2 months. He always had something to do with his coworkers. I thought he and his friends just went to the bar after work,"
"So how did we get here Maddy? You showing up at 4 in the morning?" Jay asked, not wanting to push too much but he needed the full story.
"I - We yelled at each other and he tried to tell me that it wasn't his but I knew. I just knew. So I grabbed Luke and I was in the car by 1 AM, here by 4," She finished, taking a sip of her coffee.
"So you're getting a divorce?"
"Yeah. He can go hang out with his side piece," She sighed, "I don't know what I'm gonna do. His name is on the lease for the house, for my car and I don't even know what he's going to do about Luke,"
"Well, he's not going to try and take him from you. I can tell you that, if he tries for joint custody, we can work with that but he will never take your child from you," Hailey told her, already looking up some of the lawyers they could work on Maddy's case.
"You really think?" she asked, setting Lukas on the floor and letting him go to the toy bucket that Jay and Hailey kept for him when they would visit.
"There is no way I'm letting him take your baby from you completely," Hailey reassured her, hugging her daughter tightly.
"Thanks, Mom," She nodded, finishing her coffee before she took Lukas to their room again and got him ready for the day as well as herself.
As she was getting Lukas changed, her soon-to-be ex-husband called, filling her phone screen with their latest family picture.
"Hello?" She answered, holding her phone to her ear with her shoulder as she helped her son get his arm through his shirt.
"Where are you?" Derek asked, sounding a lot calmer than he did the previous night.
"My parents," She told him, sitting on the bed as she held her phone in her hand at this point.
"With Lukas?"
"No Derek, I left him in a box in the closet. Yes, I have Luke with me," She said as she rolled her eyes. "You watched me put him in his car seat,"
"What do you want here? What do you want to do?" He asked, irritated as usual.
"You obviously want your side chick so why don't you go marry her," Maddy seethed.
"What? You want a divorce?" He asked, again sounding irritated as ever.
"You obviously do if I'm not good enough to be the only one you love. By the way, I left my wedding ring in the gravel, you can go find it,"
"Fine. I don't want you, I want her,"
"Then you can have her," She told him as she hung up her phone.
Luke had left the room and she could hear him and Jay laughing but all she could do was cry. Her life was once again falling apart. Instead of Jay leaving this time, it was the other person that was supposed to love her forever. Guess the wedding vows meant absolutely nothing to him.
