A jasper that was cornered from the rest of the gem soldiers was doing a good job of defending herself, her armored form taking incoming gunfire and blunt force trauma as she threw another Legion soldier over her shoulder and stole their weapon.
But she grits her teeth and swiped the feed away and turned her focus back to the battle that was quickly turning into a bloodbath as the gem fleet lost ship after ship of their already small fleet. Her hands were a blur as she manually controlled the Mac cannon and started opening the comm lines to the other ships, "All remaining ships form a tight circle with me!" she said as the Mac cannon shook the ship as it shot out across the battlefield.
Six Legion cruisers were caught in the beam and immediately exploded as they were bisected, Peridot gave a small grin but it was short-lived as the ship's places were filled by eight more ships.
The remaining ships of the gem fleet had followed through with Peridot's orders, the four of them formed themselves into a circle formation with peridots ship and the final remaining shield ship, with flames and pieces of it falling from it, using the last of its power and diverted everything into projecting a shield around all of their ships. It flickered as the salvo of Legion ships closed in and started raining a focused beam of missiles and turret fire, but it held strong as the gems inside of the cruisers waited and were given a chance to focus on the soldiers that had boarded them in the beginning.
Peridot turned away from her console, "what is the word on our message sent to Homeworld?" she said as she glanced at one of the technicians.
"Our signals are being blocked by a spike of energy," the technician said with a shake of her head, her hair looked frazzled as the ship rocked from another internal explosion. "But I'll keep trying to get through to them."
Peridot nodded and turned to another technician, "and word from our troops fighting the boarding Legion soldiers?" she said as she brought up the video feed again with a wave of her hand, flicking through the different camera feeds and narrowing her eyes as she saw the bodies of gem soldiers and Legions soldiers alike, the halls flashing with red lights as fires started from sparks.
"The fighting has stopped, shipmaster," the other technician said as she worked with talking to the other ships, "we have less than half of our remaining gem soldiers in fighting order but they have successfully taken down the boarding party," the technician said with some relief in her voice.
"That's good, now tell them to focus their attention on recovering the gems of the soldiers that were poofed and the ones that weren't poofed," Peridot said as she turned to look as one of the soldiers in the video got up from where she was embedded in a wall, her armored sporting a large slice through the middle. "We need all the hands we can get to fix the ship's internals," she said as she took off her cap and ran a hand through her hair.
"Yes, Shipmaster," the voices of the technicians said in unison as she turned back to her console, placing both hands down and leaning forwards, her mind ran through many different possibilities as she stared out at the flickering shield keeping them from destruction.
Hours seemed to pass before one of the technicians jumped in her seat, standing up as she shouted across the bridge, "A single friendly ship coming through the warp!" causing Peridot to turn immediately.
She didn't hear her right, "A single ship? Why would they send a single ship?"
But she couldn't continue as a wave caused by the opening of the warp space caused every ship to shake as the absolutely massive sight of the "Infinity" dwarfed the gem fleet and even the biggest ships in the Legions fleet.
"The Infinity, they sent the Infinity!" a technician said as she stood up, her eyes wide as she stared at the ship as it appeared on the edge of the battlefield through warp space, easily dwarfing any of the other ships present. The ship was unlike anything of the gem ships Peridot had ever seen before, its sleek, silver hull gleaming in the light of the nearby stars. She'd heard of the Infinity but had never seen it because of how Black Diamond kept it secretive, but seeing it in person was another feeling entirely.
As the ship approached, it fired a barrage of powerful energy beams at the invading Legion forces, taking out dozens of ships at once. Peridot and her remaining fleet watched in awe as the ship continued to blast through the Legion's ranks, its weapons tearing through their defenses with ease.
All of the Legion's attention shifted towards the Infnity as they focused their fire on it, but the sheer size and strength of its shield rendered it almost impossible to break through as it decimated the overwhelming Chaos fleet.
The hologram of a Jasper appeared in the center of her console, her officer outfit fitting tightly against her tall frame as she fixed her gaze on Peridot, "sorry for the wait, we didn't receive your messages until one of the technicians sent a personal message to Black Diamonds line," the Jasper said with a slight tone of amusement.
This caused Peridot to turn and look at the technician in question, she gave a sheepish grin before Peridot shook her head and turned back to the Jasper, "We appreciate your assistance, I had absolutely no idea what would've happened if we were here for any longer," Peridot said as the rest of the Legion ships jumped away, leaving the disabled and destroyed ones floating idly.
"Thank Black Diamond for that," Jasper said as she gave a small smile. "He'd appeared on the bridge of the Infinity personally in order to make your message heard."
Peridot let a look of surprise cross her face, the expression causing the Jasper to chuckle this time as she shifted off the frame, "furthermore, the remainder of your fleet is to be sent back to the shipyard, and your personal is to take a break from combat for a few cycles on Homeworld."
"V-very well, I understand, I will let everyone know," Peridot said as she moved to end the transmission, "Peridot out."
I let out a small sigh as I sat back in my seat, that was a very close call, too close for comfort. They'd almost lost that fight, even if they were putting up a good fight in the beginning, they still eventually were pushed back and almost lost every one of their ships. That needed to be changed, I needed to rethink the designs of the ships and see what I could do in order to make them more effective. But I wasn't just going to keep supplying them with a snap of my fingers, I'd let the actual engineers and technicians that I'd created do that, I would just give them advice on what I would want.
I already made the decision that I wouldn't use my powers to keep creating things from this point on, unless it was of the utmost importance, I was at the point where I no longer needed to keep snapping things into existence and I could Instead actually let the gems and Diamonds do things and figure out things themselves.
Though I had to hand it to Abbaddon, that was a good attack, much better than his other ones. It seemed that he'd probably underestimated my forces and was surprised when we beat his butt every single time. So I guess now he was taking things seriously, if that pyrrhic victory was anything to go off of, I knew for a fact that I was going to look forward to many many future battles.
Maybe even ones that I could fight in myself, that'd be fun. Though, it would be hard to rationalize a reason why I would even go to fight myself.
Ah, maybe I would actually join the battle if Abbaddon actually showed himself in one of them because so far I hadn't seen any trace of him in any.
Hm. Can't wait.
