"Well, hello there! What brings you here, sunbeam?" He sang, leaning on her door.
"Hi, Sally! I have a favor to ask of you.. may I borrow a spare camera by any chance?" I asked, rocking forward on my heels.
I watched Sally's face twist into confusion, a finger moving to her chin as he began thinking.
"Hm. I haven't seen a camera in a while.. Don't worry, I'll see if I can find one and I'll bring it right over! You don't have to worry about a thing, sweetie." She said, smiling down at me and moving off of her door.
"Thank you so much, Sally! I'll see you around." I exclaimed, giving her a small wave and backing off of the porch.
She returned the wave and shut her door, leaving Wally and I alone on the path.
"My, that went rather well! I think she's warming up to you." Wally laughed, taking hold of my hand.
"Yeah." I said, turning my gaze to the post office in the far distance.
"Ready for a long walk?" Wally joked, bumping his shoulder against mine.
I ignored the small pain from the bump and scoffed. All I'd need to do is go in there and ask if Eddie can print out some photos, then when we get back to Home, I can send the photos to him VIA internet. I formed a whole plan in my head as we walked, needing something to distract me from the still ache in my shoulder. Wally and I finally arrived at the small tan post office, Wally opting to wait outside. I made my way into the cozy office and rang a small silver bell that rested on the front desk.
"Coming! Just one moment!" A muffled voice called from the back.
I watched as Eddie shuffled out of a back room, carrying what seemed to be tons of overdo letters. He set them down onto a chair with a loud sigh and turned to face me.
"Ah- hello, what can I do for you?" He said, wiping nonexistent sweat from his forehead with the back of his hand.
"Hey, Eddie. I was wondering if you could print some photos for me. I can just send them over the internet." I said, folding my arms over the countertop.
"Of course! Send 'em over and I'll get them printed right away. You're lucky, Y'know! you have the fastest mailman around." He said, resting an elbow on the counter and winking playfully at me.
"Thanks, Eddie." I replied, smiling and backing away from the counter.
"Call me Ed, and anytime!"
"Thanks, Ed."
We waved goodbye and I stepped out onto the path, letting out a loud snort when I saw Wally had a butterfly resting in the middle of his face.
"Shhh! Don't scare it." Wally whispered, crossing his eyes to stare at the pink insect.
I smirked and took hold of his hand, dragging him along back to Home. The entire time Wally kept pausing to let the butterfly adjust, finally, he decided to let it flutter away as we neared the front door.
"Dear, I need to make an important phone call. Do you think you could head to the paint room? I'll only be a minute." Wally whispered as we entered into Home.
"I- sure, Wally. I need to email Ed the pictures anyways." I said dismissively, taking my shoes off and heading down the hallway towards the paint room.
I closed the door slowly, sighing and slumping down onto the floor in front of the old computer. I logged in and began copying images from the church website, staring sadly when I landed on the one of my mother. I blinked away tears and copied every last one of them, also deciding to copy blurry eyewitness images of the two entering the church. I typed them all up in an email and pressed 'SEND', smiling happily as I watched the photos disappear.
I shut the computer off and stood, stretching a bit. I decided to change my clothes into something more comfortable than overalls. I made my way out of the paint room and into Wally's bedroom, opening his closet and marveling at the different outfits.
"A pink suit, colorful striped shirts, red cardigan.." I said, relaying every item aloud to myself as my eyes skimmed over them.
I gasped as my eyes landed on a fluffy blue sweater with apples and red hearts embroidered into the cuffs. It was perfect! Surely Wally wouldn't mind if I borrowed it. I unclipped my overalls and slid my shirt over my head, slipping the sweater on comfortably. I grabbed the shorts I'd discarded days ago- weeks ago? And pulled them on. I forgot how long I've been here at this point. I admired myself in Wally's mirror and let out a pleased sigh.
Ding Dong
Was that the.. doorbell? I didn't know Home had a doorbell. I skipped out of the bedroom and glanced around, noticing Wally wasn't around either.
I slowly made my way to the door, grabbing the handle. I swear I've seen something exactly like this in the horror movies.
I slowly pulled the door open, closing my eyes in fear of what I might find-
"Surprise!"
I opened my eyes to see all of the neighbors outside with smiling faces. Julie and Frank held a big cake in their hands that read, 'see you later!'. Wally must've told them about my return back to the real world after I expose the church. I gasped and glanced behind me, seeing Wally holding a bouquet of lily's and blushing.
"Surprise, darling."
