It took all day for her to rip her wardrobe apart, try on every outfit she possessed and put it all away again with a sigh. Nothing felt quite right. Too dressy. Too casual. Too frumpy. Too... well she didn't even KNOW why she'd bought THAT particular dress. It, along with all the others were stuffed back in and the door shut with a bang. What was she going to do? It was almost 5, the shops would be shutting soon. Then she remembered, the little boutique where she'd bought her handbag. They had a few dresses and so on.

Grabbing her coat, she dashed out the door and in ten minutes reached the shop. The lights were still on, thank goodness! She pushed the door, it didn't move. NOOOOOOO! she rattled the door, and the proprietor looked up from where she was counting the takings. She almost shook her head at the dishevelled and panic stricken woman at the door. Almost. There was something about her expression that made her feel sorry for her. If she was desperate to get in at this time on a Saturday night, there must be some pressing urgency to the purchase.

With a smile, she closed the till and walked over to the door. Kate tried to regulate her breathing so she could at least string a sentence together.

"Hello? We're actually closed?" the woman looked at her with sympathetic eyes. She was roughly Kate's age and looked like she had dealt with a million Kates in her time.

"Ohhhh I'm sorry. I was just a bit desperate. I'm sorry." Kate turned to leave, her face a picture of despair.

"First date?" the woman smiled generously and stepped back, opening the door.

"Sort of" Kate said, "First proper date and it's a bit complicated. There might be some attention." she didn't want to be too indiscrete, but a little info might help her cause.

"Ahh, fair enough, come on in. I can count up any time. Looks like you don't have a lot of that left!"

"No, curtain up at 7.30." Kate said as she hurried inside "thank you SO much."

"Right, I'm Josie, let's get to work shall we?"

Forty-five minutes, a thousand changes and one Eureka moment later, Kate stood looking at herself in the changing room mirror. It was NOTHING she had anticipated wearing. It was, for a start, trousers. Black skinny trousers. The top, well that was leather. Yep. An actual leather corset top. Even she had to admit, she looked HOT. Over it, a small black shrug to keep off the chill and the stares. Studded high heeled boots and a small clutch finished it off.

Josie clapped her hands, "You look amazing Kate! He's going to fall at your feet - I hope you got your pulling pants on girl because tonight....." she winked and they laughed together. Kate had a feeling Josie was going to become a very good friend.

"Thanks Josie," she hugged her, "Right I better get this lot home, the taxi is coming at 7. We're going for dinner afterwards." she took a last look in the mirror and smiled. God I hope he doesn't think I'm trying too hard she said to herself. Oh well, where Hiddleston was concerned, COULD you try too hard?

Tom waited outside the theatre, his heart racing. This was it. The first proper date. Luke had dropped off the tickets when he'd popped by the previous evening and had been astonished to find that Kate was in the house. Tom had made it quite clear it wasn't going to be an "overnight" stop though, he knew that just wasn't an option. Not yet. Not by a long chalk. And that, to his surprise, pleased him more than anything. He could tell she wasn't some starstruck girl. She was feisty, independent and had self respect many would kill for. Oh and did he mention she was as sexy as hell? Even in joggers three feet too long and a hoodie they could have both fit into. He was just wondering how to go about exactly that when a voice at his elbow startled him out of his daydream.

"Hi Tom, you ok?"

He turned round and his eyes almost fell out of his head. She was absolutely stunning. In a second he'd taken in the corset and the trousers and the killer heels and, best of all, the eyes. The sensuous, deep, intelligent, all consuming eyes. God, how he wanted her. Mild ravishing be damned, he wanted her hot and hard and in every conceivable way. It made him blush to his toes.

"Hi Kate, you look...wow." he smiled and kissed her cheek, his hand automatically reaching for hers. "I wish I'd dressed up a bit more now."

"Oh God!" she looked worried "is it too much? Have I got it all wrong? I'm so sorry... I just" she was silenced as he kissed her full on the mouth. Right there in the street. In public. Her eyes widened in shock. As he pulled back, she let out a little "oh!"

Tom smiled and slipped his arm around her waist pulling her along with him as he walked inside. "You look perfect darling. Truly perfect. Did you honestly think you could turn up looking as hot as you do and NOT get kissed?" his eyes glinted, hinting at the desire coursing through him.

"Well, I never gave it much thought" she said quietly, biting her bottom lip, "Since we are in public, I assumed..." she trailed off as she looked up into his face. A face that plainly mirrored his feelings for once.

"Well, public or not, I want to kiss you again." he bent down and did exactly that. This time his tongue flitted along her bottom lip and she shivered with delight. He broke the kiss and smiled. "Come on, we have a play to see. I think you're going to like it."

She did. She loved it. King Lear. Not a play she was overly familiar with, despite her underlying love of Shakespeare, but it was wonderful. Sitting in the second to front row of the stalls, she watched as the play unfolded before her, transported to another time and place. She was so caught up that it was a shock when the house lights came up for the intermission. Turning to Tom she grasped his arm and grinned.

"Oh my! This is SO good! Thank you SO much Tom!" He smiled as she looked like she'd just been given the best Christmas present ever.

"It's my pleasure darling" he said, then leaning in to her ear added, "and I'm hoping to give you more later too!" he ghosted his lips on her cheek and she let out a little gasp. Before she could react further, Tom had stood up and walked away, "I'll get us a couple of drinks, back in a minute." She nodded slowly and sat back, watching him stride away, or more accurately watching his rear stride away. God he was hot. She would have to keep a level head and not drink too much if this wasn't going to descend into a very messy evening.

The play finished with a standing ovation, during which Kate and Tom were snapped chatting as they applauded. By the time they reached the restaurant, social media was buzzing with speculation. Tom excused himself to the bathroom before their meal and Kate took a quick peak at twitter, against her better judgement. A few flicks up the screen and there she was, clapping and looking at the stage while Tom was clapping and OH MY GOD he was actually just staring down at her. Not the stage, not the players, her. There were actually a few and in each one, all he was doing was looking at her. As he approached, she hastily slipped her phone into her bag and sat looking at the menu.

Tom sat and picked up his. "So what do you fancy?" he asked nonchalantly, his head to one side looking at her. "See anything tasty?" he grinned and winked.

"Well," she paused for a moment "there seems to be a great big ham on the menu. Sometimes it can sometimes be tough to get it right. Just tender and succulent enough in the mouth." she looked over the edge of the menu at him and he was laughing silently, shaking his head. "Although, I do believe it's much more tender on the inside than it looks. Just a matter of knowing how to take it." she looked at him, her eyes hooded and her lips just slightly parted "it probably just need the right handling and plenty of time."

Tom looked at her and tried to remember how to breathe. Dear God she knew what she was doing. Every bit as much as he did. He felt himself burn, ready to sweep everything off the table and take her there and then. It wasn't just a cold shower he needed, he needed to be completely encased in ice. And now.

The waiter approached and Kate seemed to change to another person instantly. Gone was the innuendo and the stare, in it's place, a sweet and polite woman just ordering dinner like a normal human being. She waited patiently as Tom ordered his meal then as the waiter walked away, raised her glass and said quietly,

"To getting to know each other and never assuming anything. After all... to assume.."

"Is to make an ass of you and me!" he replied, and in his head added - and what an ass she had!
