Ninth Flag - Don't Present As An Omega (Whatever the Hell THAT Means)

Start from the beginning

"He's presenting," whispered Jisung.

"W- what? Impossible, he's twenty-two!" protested Hyunjin.

Everyone knew that presentation always occurred at fifteen – and, in some rare cases, at eighteen. But past twenty? It was practically unheard of. And yet there was Felix, now showing all the symptoms of a very late presentation, and obviously suffering a lot from it.

"We can't leave him here, his scent is soon going to attract unwanted attention," cursed Jisung, quickly going to fetch some sheets. "You need to bring him to the Queen's quarters – they're the only ones made to contain an Omega's scent. In the meantime, I will go and fetch Jeongin—Hyunjin! Snap out of it! Felix needs you right now!"

"R- right!"

He could be shocked later. Right now, Felix needed his help. Quickly, the two bundled Felix up in the sheets. He was quite cold despite his fever, and his state worried Hyunjin greatly – who knew what kind of consequences such a late presentation would have on him? Hyunjin picked him up, his heart clenching as he realized just how light Felix was – he probably hadn't eaten much in the past few days – and, without wasting any more time, he promptly rushed out of the Rising Moon Palace and immediately made a beeline for the Palace of the Shining Sun, where the King and Queen resided, while Jisung ran off to find Jeongin.

"Just hang in there, Felix," pleaded Hyunjin as he ran through the hallways. "Please, just hang in there...!"

.

A presentation wasn't something exactly pleasant, in the sense that it completely changed one's body in a matter of days, which always resulted in heavy soreness and sometimes sickness.

Betas had it the easiest, in the sense that nothing changed much for them other than their scent glands developing to full maturity – it itched for a couple of days and, if no infection settled in, then they were good to go on with their lives without further complications. Betas made up the great majority of the kingdom's population, hence they were known as the "common" people. The subgender in and of itself didn't exactly offer anything to better their society, so they were often looked down upon as the "extra" subgender, one without much value or social worth.

Alphas had it a little harder. It could take between four days to a full week for them to properly settle into their subgender. Their muscles grew thicker and stronger very quickly, which left them tired and aching all over for days, and they also became rather aggressive and territorial. Alphas were common amongst nobler bloodlines, hence why many ancient families did their utmost best to arrange marriages between themselves, in an attempt to preserve the subgender. Alphas were physically stronger and had sharper instincts, and they were considered the pillars of their society.

Finally, Omegas were... special. It was normally girls who presented as Omegas but, from time to time, a boy also did. The only difference between the two was that only women could carry children, but that didn't stop a male Omega's body from trying to adapt and carry children, too. For both, however, the presentation was... harsh. They got sick easily, and they suffered from tiring mood swings, and it was quite painful since their organs abruptly grew all at once.

Omegas were considered extremely important, since they were meant to carry the future of the kingdom, and they were usually the ones meant to birth strong and capable alphas. Omegas were usually born from noble families, but those born from humbler backgrounds almost always guaranteed a rise in social status for their families, since most nobles sought to marry omegas.

(Women who presented as alphas and betas could carry children as well, but alphas rarely ever managed to go through with the pregnancy, and betas... Well, they usually only sired other betas.)
