Chapter 33: Comfort

"You didn't but he did~~~~ He thought he could capture you alone but the only thing he came back with was spikes all over him." Poison Mushroom giggled recalling the memory of the cake hound brute covered head to toe in spikes and trying not to cry.

(Y/N) began to think before a certain memory flooded their mind. It was when they had first summoned their spikes with Milk cookie and Purple Yam cookie. After all the summoned ones fell from the sky, a scream rang through the forest. (Y/N) never figured out who that screamed belonged to until now.

Now that they realized, they hissed as they realized the pain that Schwarzwälder must have been in. "Uh... whoops. But hey, he was planning on attacking me first so I won't say I'm sorry."

(Y/N)'s response made Poison Mushroom cookie giggle harder, "You're really funny~~~ that's why you are my friend~~~~"

(Y/N) smiled at the label they were given. Even though the two were on opposite sides, Poison Mushroom was just so pure and sweet that he didn't even think about what he said. In a way, the child reminded (Y/N) of someone else. The memories brought (Y/N) to tears. Which they tried and failed to wipe away before Poison Mushroom noticed.

But, despite being a bit of an airhead, Poison Mushroom did notice. "Why are you sad?~~~~"

(Y/N) sniffed trying to put on a brave face, "Oh it's nothing. It's just you remind me of my friend Custard Cream lll. You guys are about the same age and he was the one who helped me get used to all this. But now I may not ever see him again."

(Y/N) once again was full on crying at this point. They were missing Custad Cream lll, missing Tighnari, they missed everyone. Now they were stuck here and had no way of escape. Poison Mushroom could only watch in sadness as the (Y/A) year old was once again crying.

He thought about giving them another shroomie but that wouldn't do much. So he came up with another idea.

"I know~~~ I'll talk to master. Ask her to let you go~~~"

(Y/N)'s eyes shot up, they immediately knew that plan would not only work but would most likely get the child in trouble. But before they could stop him, Poison Mushroom cookie was already making his way back to the dining hall.

There he saw all the Dark cookies including Affogato cookie. Also Dark Enchantress cookie who smiled at his arrival.

"Poison Mushroom. Where have you been?" The master asked.

"I was talking with the green cookie~~~ I gave them a shroomie."

Dark Enchantress cookie chuckled at the child's antics, "I see. Well your arrival couldn't have been more perfect. I need you to do me a favor."

Poison Mushroom cookies eyes gleamed at the order. This was the first request Dark Enchantress cookie had given to him directly. So he could not do it without fail.

"You're magic is good for illusion." Dark Enchantress Cookie explained, "So I want you to put a little spell on the cookie in the dungeon. Show them something that would make them turn to our side."

"And then after we can let them go?"

"Yes! After we could let the-" Dark Enchantress cookies eyes shot open, "What did you say?"

"After I show them my magic. Then we could let them go?" Poison Mushroom asked not knowing the severity of his question.

Dark Enchantress cookie shot up from her seat, "No I never intend on letting them go? Where on Earthbread did you get that idea?"

Poison Mushroom shuffled back as his master got closer, "It's just, they look so sad. They miss their friends~~~"

"I don't care if they miss their friends or that they're sad!" Dark Enchantress cookie shouted causing everyone in the room to jump, "You will do as I say and cast your illusions. That is all you will be doing? Do I make myself clear?"

Poison Mushroom cookie bowed, "Yes Master." He then immediately left not even taking a glance at the others on the room who looked at the child with pity.

Poison Mushroom cookie somberly made his way back to the dungeon to see (Y/N) who was leaning as close as they could to the bars of the cell. Waiting for the child's return. When he did, (Y/N) sighed.

"Thank goodness you're okay."

Poison Mushroom sniffed, using his long robe to try to catch the tears before they formed. But of course, (Y/N) immediately noticed.

"Are you okay?"

"No~~ I tried to talk to the master but she just yelled at me and told me to cast my illusion magic on you."

"She did?" (Y/N) asked and Poison Mushroom nodded.

"She wants to make you join our side and thinks my illusions could do that. But I don't want to hurt you. Your my friend~~~"

(Y/N) saw as the small dark cookie tried to hold in his tears which made (Y/N) quickly think of a way to try and fix the cookies horrible mood.

(Y/N) beamed as an idea hit them. They were just able to slip their hand through the bars of the cell and held it out towards Poison Mushroom. The child stopped his attempts to stop crying to look at (Y/N) in confusion.

"Um... I usually do this with my friends. And since you're my friend I thought maybe we could high stub!"

"High stub?~~"

"Yeah, just hit my hand with yours and then we shout together. I call it a high stub. Try it."

Poison Mushroom did as the cookie in the dungeon told him to do. He gently lifted his hand and placed a gently smack against (Y/N)'s hand.

(Y/N) and Poison Mushroom cookie then shouted High stub! This immediately cheered the child Cookie who squealed with glee. "That was fun~~ But I still don't want to cast my illusion spell on you. It will make you sad~~"

"It's okay. We will figure out a way around this. As friends."
