Chapter 13 - Thanos

Start from the beginning

Will opened his eyes, which I could now see were bright blue, and stood up. I noticed that both kids were wearing black and silver cloaks. I noticed the matching bronze bands on their hands. They were married, only seventeen, but married. Will nodded and turned to Nebula, who was lying on a cot next to mine. He stuck an IV needle in her arm and repeated the chant he had healed me with. When she opened her eyes, she immediately had a knife at his throat, holding him like criminals do with hostages. "Who are you people?" she growled.

Will was wide-eyed, looking a bit nervous. The pale boy looked really mad. "Let! Him! Go!" he demanded. The shadows grew, creeping towards Nebula.

Nebula just pressed the knife closer, drawing a thin line of silver blood. "Who are you? Who do you work for?"

"Please, don't do this," Will said quietly. His eyes never left the other boy's, and I realized he was more nervous about his husband's reaction than of the knife at his neck.

"Nebula, he's a kid," I said. "He helped you. Seriously, stop trying to kill everyone! Let the kid talk."

Nebula frowned but let the kid go. "Thanks," he said, the cut already healing.

The pale boy rushed over and hugged his husband. When he pulled back, he kissed him. It was a quick kiss, but it was loving. Then he turned to Nebula. "Touch him again and I'll kill you. I don't care who you are, or how much trouble I'll get in. You touch him, I will take you out."

Will hugged him. "I'm fine Nico, don't blame the child for her actions. She almost died and is surrounded by unfamiliar people. You would do the same. Go get him, you know he wants to talk with them."

Nico scowled. "I am not leaving you alone with them."

"I can take care of myself. Plus, he's probably right outside. You'll be gone less than a minute." Will said reassuringly.

Nico huffed, sent a glare at Nebula, and stalked out to get his boss, who I assumed would be Thanos. I looked at Will. "Thanks," I said a bit grudgingly.

"No problem. Your injuries weren't as bad as we thought, so it only took a simple healing spell." He said. "Though, you are extremely malnourished, so you're going to have to stay in bed for the next few days, at least.

Nico reentered the tent, following a young man, that, compared to me, is a kid. Not that I'd ever admit that out loud. The dude looked around and sat down facing Nebula and me. "How are you feeling?" He asked.

He had a crown nestled in his messy white hair and it looked natural on him, like he was born to wear it. He had deep blue eyes scattered with stars, which studied me intensely. He also wore a cloak, but his was made of the night sky, with stars twinkling on the black cloth. He had multiple weapons visible on his person and probably some concealed, but for some reason, I felt like I could trust him. I responded politely. "Better."

He smiled. "That is good news. Your friends have been worried sick."

"Where are they? Who are you?" I blurted, finally unable to hold back my questions any longer. "Do you work for Thanos?"

He looked taken aback. "Why would you think that?"

"Nobody specified what was happening. The girl said she was looking for us, and mentioned my friends, but wouldn't tell me anymore. I assumed you worked with or for Thanos and had either killed or captured them." I said, though it was a bit quiet and ashamed. They had helped me, and I still thought they were bad.

The kid raised an eyebrow, and I thought he would get upset with me. Instead, he turned to Will. "How, when you contacted Ms. Danvers, did it manage to sound like we worked for Thanos?" He asked.
