Chapter 17: Lunch

Start from the beginning

"Well kid I'm glad you asked!" She started, "Midoriya was a regular here for at least a year. Heheh, some say he's what kept us in business." She laughed to herself, "He was a hero to the manager for saving his daughter who was choking on some shrimp at the bar."

"what kind of parent doesn't supervise their kid eating?" Katsuki said, totally judging this guy.

"The kind who shouldn't have to! His daughter was 22!" She emphasized the "22" laughing hysterically.

Katsuki grinned hearing this, he let out a breathily laugh. "Y-yeah alright that's the end of my legacy-" Izuku tried to end it there but was overpowered by the waitress, "That's not even the best part!" She calmed her laughter, "The manager was so thankful, He gave Midoriya a lifetime pass to all you can drink!" Katsuki knew where this was headed, he looked at the pouty greenette across from him who sat back in his chair crossing his arms.

"I was eighteen, I wasn't even legal yet.." Izuku muttered, "Yeah, that's true. So that's why you came back a few months later with your friends and got shit-faced!- oops pardon my french." The waitress finished,

"I mean I've seen you drunk before, but even then you seemed sober." Katsuki said looking at ther shorter male. Izuku shook his head, "I was drinking the light stuff." Izuku explained sitting back up in his seat, katsuki nodded understanding, "yeah but a year ago you could barely hold your beer, Mr. Hero over here was the life of the bar, he was the most wasted one out of every one. I hear there is still some random video of him on the internet of him making out with the poster girl then throwing up on her... poor thang." She shook her head remembering the night like it was yesterday.

Izuku had enough, he was hungry and he didn't come to his favourite restaurant to reminisce about what a light weight he was, he came to get some grub.

"Umm not to be rude but we still need to figure out what we're getting.." Izuku said timidly. The waitress totally got sidetracked and gasped at her behaviour, "my lord- please forgive me! Of course, I'll be on my way. But was there something you wanted to drink sir?" She asked katsuki, "waters fine..thanks" he replied, and then the woman was on her way.

The two chatted for a bit about random things, and then they somehow managed to find themselves talking about their friends.

"I mean.. I see where he's coming from but he's totally clueless, raising a kid is not as easy as it sounds. I swear he blocked out all the shitty things I told him." Katsuki said, Izuku smiled softly, "he's a good friend, I haven't know him as long as you obviously, but it's the ones that stick around even when it's hard that counts." Katsuki nodded. He hadn't realized how long he's been rambling, and Deku hadn't even told him to shut up once.... He's way to good of a listener.

And few minutes later they had their orders taken and they went back to chatting, but that's when Izuku thought it'd be a good time to ask the blonde something.

"Hey..Bakugou...I know we don't know each other all to well but, I just couldn't help but think of you as my friend..." Izuku said timidly, this caught the blonde off guard, he hasn't made a friend since high school. His chest felt warm, and his heart was beating a little faster than usual, "Tch, that's random." Katsuki blurted out,

Izuku laughed nervously, "look, I have a proposal-" he started, this caused the blonde to look at those green eyes that never seem to leave his. "I totally get it if you don't want to, but I need to be a little selfish" katsuki snickered,

"You? Selfish? Please, I may not know you all to well myself, but I doubt you've ever been selfish a day in your life."

Izuku started tugging at the back of his hair slightly as an anxiety mechanism.

"Heheh, well... you need a place to live. I need a roommate. Don't you think it could work out?" Izuku asked.

Katsuki's teasing grin left his face as he stared blankly at the boy across from him. "I don't need your help." He said blankly. Izuku looked at the blonde expecting a response like this.

"Look I know you want-" Izuku tried to say but was cut off by the blonde.
"You don't know what the hell I want" Katsuki raised his voice a little, only to bring it back down remembering he's in a public place.

"You don't know what I want. What I want, is to find a place so that my fuckin' daughter doesn't have to live in a goddamn shoebox. I need to do it myself." He said more sternly, "I don't need anybody's help." He finished with a grumble.

Izuku nodded with a determined look on his face, "And that's were the selfish part comes in." Izuku said catching the blondes gaze once again,
"I Don't want a roommate..no... I need one. And I need it to be someone I trust, and believe it or not but I trust you, Bakugou." Izuku said, clenching his hands into fists under their square table.

Katsuki didn't know what else to say, no one's talked to him like that before.
"...I need to think what's best for Sophie. And trust me you wouldn't want to live with the two of us." Katsuki stated, "it gets chaotic.."

Izuku smiled one of his warm smiles that could brighten anyone's mood, "Bakugou. Your my friend, and i love Sophie, and I think you probably don't see it but I do, your alone, you always have been, and that's why you feel the need to do everything yourself..prove yourself even. But let me tell you something, I wouldn't be suggesting this if I wasn't thinking about Sophie...or you. I get this stresses you out, and it stresses me out looking for someone random to just all of a sudden move in with me! But your not someone random." Izuku said wholeheartedly, his smile never ceasing to disappear.

Katsuki thought for a moment. He really wanted to be the best father he could be, with what he had. He did think it was true that he would avoid others help because it would make him more vulnerable, because really.. under all his tough exterior is just a guy trying to do the best he can for his daughter, he doesn't want her to grow up like he did. Maybe having someone like Deku around wouldn't be a bad choice for Sophie. Now that he thinks about it, Deku kinda sounds like his dad.

'..Eww..' he thought as a small shiver ran up his back from the weird connection.

"Fine. But if Sophie becomes too much and annoys you when your busy doing other stuff, I need you to tell me. I don't want you putting any of you time helping me with anything, your too much of a damn goody-two-shoes to leave anyone or anything alone." Katsuki started.

Izuku rolled his eyes playfully, "trust me, I'll leave you guys be, but if Sophie invites me to a tea party I'm am not gonna pass up an opportunity like that, in fact I have my own china for events such as that." Izuku stated with a bit of sass in his tone, this caused katsuki to snicker a little at him, "shit man, your gonna regret being there when Sophie stirs up some shit with Mr. Bear, things go flying." Katsuki joined in on the joke, Izuku laughed, but it soon settled down to him smiling, "glad to be doing business with you...roomie." Izuku held his hand out from under the table, reaching it over to the blonde. Katsuki looked at his outstretched hand only to roll his eye's playfully as he shook it.

Izuku noted the bruised hand he shook. He wanted to be the best roommate he could be and take some of his stress away. They both pulled their hands back, all Izuku could do was smile. But katsuki couldn't help but catastrophize the worst. He just needed to put his wall up. Then everything should be fine.

'He better not regret this...'

"Order up!"
