Chapter 36 - Here comes my knight with a shining shovel.

Start from the beginning

"Running away?" He replied. "Hurry, follow me. We don't want them to get to you," he said quickly before grabbing my hand and pulling me out of the window as well.

I looked at my feet. We were on the roof of the house and only James' hand was keeping me from sliding down the slope of the roof to my death.

"Come on," said James before he pulled my hand and started to guide me as we moved to the left.

"I found them!" a voice yelled from behind us. James started to move quicker, not looking back. At the very end of the roof, there was a flight of stairs. However, we had to jump in order to reach it since it started from an emergency door on the floor below.

James let go of my hand and he lowered himself till he was hanging from the roof. He let go and suddenly, he was standing on the stairs. I stood there, just staring in awe.

"Do you expect me to do this?" I asked with a chuckle. I wasn't that athletic.

I am as athletic as a sloth.

"Don't worry, I will catch you," he encouraged me. I just shook my head.

Mmm, I'm really craving some Oreo's at the moment.

I shut up my stupid stomach when James' voice snapped me back into reality.

"Hurry, Samantha, they're going to be here soon,"

I looked behind me, and he was right. There was a masked man just merely feet away from me. My heart started beating fast.

I looked down at James and then at the guy who was coming closer before I took a deep breath and decided to take the risk.

I tried to hang myself from the roof by the arms like James did, but instead I ended up falling on him. Making the both of us roll down the stairs and into the snow, and probably crushing his bones.

"Are you okay?" I asked, getting up from the snow to look at James; who looked as if he'd just gotten stomped on by an elephant.

James just raised his arm with his thumb out, indicating that he was okay.

I sighed. "Get up, what are we doing next?" I asked.

Before he could reply, a third, ugly voice chimed in. "You're going to die," he said sarcastically.

I looked behind me and there was another masked guy. He looked older and with broader shoulders and a buffer form.

Holy crap, how many are there of these, exactly?

"Run!" James exclaimed.

Everything happened so fast; James took my hand and we started running and I could hear the police sirens approaching.
