It's all you could make out, the screams of agony, the yelling– pleading. You press your hands so hard onto your ears that they start to hurt from the pressure.

After what feels like forever, you notice that everything has gone silent, no more banging, no more screaming, but a metallic scent in the air begins strongly invading your senses.
You wait a few more seconds before getting out of your hiding spot, scanning the area to make sure there isn't danger. You look down and-

but at your mother's decapitated head.
You took a step back and turned your head away, trying not to vomit—but.. you had to check the rest of the apartment, this place wasn't safe anymore.
Tears welled in your eyes as you had to step around her head, a blank expression on her face—the face you had grown up with, the lips that had whispered comforts to you when you cried and eyes that squinched with a smile as you accomplished something both small or big.
Was it really her? She was just dead now? Just like that? With her jaw slack and eyes half lidded as body fluid slowly seaped from her neck, her hair spread across a puddle of blood as it soaked up the liquid, you'd imagine it was sticky now– you've stared too long.
Looking up from where you were stepping, you could see her headless body near the outside of their bedroom door, seemingly tossed there.
You had to check on your dad—so begrudgingly you stepped closer, you couldn't help but stare at the gore of her profane form splayed on the floor, the jagged cut skin of where her neck was severed made you gag.
Entering their already open room after going around her corpse—you immediately saw your dad, he was still breathing, his chest stuttered as it moved.
So you went quickly to him, you'll ignore the moist feeling on your feet for now. Kneeling next to him while he was propped up against the wall, bleeding profusely from multiple gunshots in his torso and leg, his glazed eyes followed your movement.
“DAD- dad! Are you okay?!—well– you aren't- but–" you started panicking instantly, your hands shaking relentlessly as everything else gets pushed to the back of your mind
"You're alright.." he said in a hushed tone, you felt his hand on your cheek, it felt cold and callused—it was still his. Your eyes were locked onto his face and his were to, no matter how unfocused they seemed, you knew he was looking at you.
“Yes I am, but you're not— Dad, please, I don't know what to do..” Your words were quick, stuttered, spilling out your mouth as your mind still hadn't pieced together all that was happening. Tears uncontrollably ran down your face, tears which he still managed to wipe despite barely having the strength to.
