The ability you had in mind had the main principle of hindering one's senses. Your aura would take on the form of smoke, exiting through the palms of your hands and targeting whoever you had in mind. Once your smoke envelops them, you would be able to take one sense from them: taste, smell, sight, hearing or touch. With training, you hoped you would be able to take more of their senses, eventually all five. Additionally, you would have the ability to render your target into a state of Zetsu, although you already knew that would be impossible without limitations.
The conditions and limitations you had thought of consisted of the following:
1. You must see the person; if they are not in your field of vision, your ability will have no effect. However, looking directly at them is not necessary; if they are in your peripheral vision, you will be able to steal their senses. Apart from seeing them, at least one palm must be held outward in front of you at all times to use the ability.
2. Your smoke must fully envelop them to have full effect; otherwise, the parts of their body not in contact with your smoke will remain unaffected. This means that if you wish to only take their sight, you can simply cover their eyes using your smoke. This also means if you retract your smoke, there will be no lingering effects, and their senses will return immediately.
3. Your smoke can only force one individual into a state of Zetsu at a time, and you will be unable to take their other senses while shutting off their aura nodes. However, your smoke will be ineffective against those using Zetsu or ordinary people who cannot use Nen.
4. Your smoke can only extend the same distance as your maximum En distance, which may evolve over time.
Once you finally activated your Nen, focusing it in your palms, you peered through an eye and felt satisfaction as you spotted a minuscule trail of smoke extending a few centimetres.
As soon as your focus wavered ever so slightly, the smoke disappeared, seemingly reentering your body through your palms.

Crickets chirped, and a cold breeze brushed past your body as you finally decided to call it a day and rest. A thin film of sweat coated your whole body once you lowered your hands and stretched your wrists. You titled your head back, noting the dark sky and dozens of glinting stars decorating the view.
Although exhausted, you felt at ease - you had made an immense amount of progress in only a few hours. You could now change the state of your aura to a larger quantity of smoke and at a significantly quicker pace. You were still far from your ideal skill level, but your improvement showed promise.
While you bask in the starlight, you could hear footsteps approaching the clearing you were in. Cutting your relaxation short, you turned to face the source of the noise, and the culprit who stood before you had an expectant look in his brown eyes.
Behind the surface expressions in his eyes, you could tell he was drained, depleted of all energy. You had a suspicion that he saw the same in you, though you did not feel that way.
"How's it going, have you figured out an ability?" He inquired, his tranquil gaze searching you for signs of either disappointment or triumph.
You nodded before asking about his progress, examining his features as he replied.
"I've been playing with some chains since we last saw each other; it'll take me quite some time before I can conjure my own."
The cold breeze returned as the two of you conversed, signalling that it was time to find someplace to sleep. The two of you entered a large thicket, free from the wind and potential wandering eyes of creatures native to the forest. You both sat on your respective sides of the area before eventually closing your eyes, welcoming the darkness as you fell into a deep slumber.
✭
When you woke up the following morning, Kurapika had already left to play with his chains. You walked into the area where you had performed the Water Divination, expecting to encounter Izunavi.
"Morning, [Y/N]. Have something to eat and drink; I bought you guys some food. Kurapika already ate."
You neared the older man, thanking him as you indulged in the breakfast he served.
Once you finished your meal, you thanked him for a second time before he told you to go pick up on yesterday's training.
You entered the clearing you were previously in, remembering the other day's success. You felt your lips tighten into a smile as your eyes fluttered closed, your palms facing outward.
✭
Once again, you spent hours honing your skills, and by the end of the day, you managed to produce enough to envelop almost half of someone's body.
That amount of smoke was far from enough, as you would need to produce enough to extend it at least a metre. Nonetheless, you were satisfied with your progress.
Repeating last night's actions, you examined the sky, trying to spot the stars that were now covered by clouds. A few moments passed before you retreated to the thicket.
Kurapika did not join you that night.
