"I...I am what?" SMeera's eyes widened. She didn't believe what she heard.
" You heard it " He muttered, glancing away, his thoughts in turmoil.
Needless to say, Meera was perplexed. She gave an impossible look to him, "Who told you?"
"Everyone downstairs"
"And you believed it?" Meera couldn't help but ask him horrified by the fact the thing came up all of a sudden.
Rayaan strode towards her, "I am asking you are you pregnant?" he whispered.
Meera didn't even blink before snapping her head toward him and screaming, "No"
"Then how are you pregnant? There everyone is celebrating" he ran his fingers through his hair frustrated.
"Did you study biology? When we haven't done anything to welcome a child then how come I can get pregnant?" She was getting restless too. The discussion itself was stupid.
"Exactly" He pinched the bridge of his nose. On one side he was glad she was not pregnant another side he was tense about what caused the sudden misunderstanding.
Not that he doesn't want a child or doesn't want Meera to be pregnant but it was too soon. Besides the thought of results when he hasn't done the hard work was itself horrifying honestly.
As tension hung heavy, Rayaan sank onto the bed, motioning for Meera to sit beside him. "So, what happened today? Tell me everything."
Meera took a place beside him, "I was just resting the whole day, I wasn't feeling well so I was in the room....oh wait! Oh no shit!" Understanding dawned on Meera's face. Her mouth fell agape in realization.
"What happened?" he was alert looking at her wide eyes.
"I wasn't feeling well, and I felt like throwing up. And then, Aryan came into the room, He helped me. I was about to faint ... I think I think... he misunderstood that"
"You are pregnant" Rayaan completed her sentence. He shook his head at the mere thought of Aryan running out of the room and screaming to everybody that his Bhabhi is expecting.
The excuse of cousin is doing nothing but creating chaos since he came. But that wasn't important.
"You are sick, Let's go to the doctor" he stood up picking up the car keys.
"No, I am fine"
"Fine? You just said you were puking and almost fainted" He was troubled why was she even arguing? She wasn't well and it was clear.
"I am saying I am fine. I took the medicines" She tried her best to convince him but he was adamant about visiting the Doctor, "I... I was actually having menstrual nausea. It had happened a few times before. I will be fine" Her words were so low that if not for the silent room, they would have been barely audible to Rayaan. "Oh" was what all he said before entering the washroom to change, "Take care of yourself . If you need anything don't hesitate to tell me" he added.
Sighing in relief, Meera contemplated over the words he said earlier. She couldn't believe after asking her to rest Aryan went on to spread the chaos. She was here sleeping peacefully and there was a celebration going on for a non-existent pregnancy.
It was so embarrassing to face the family members after this. What they must be thinking was that the couple was desperate. Meera face palmed framing the scenarios in her head and getting embarrassed.
Now who was going to clear this misunderstanding?
As Rayaan emerged from the washroom, a sense of awkwardness hung in the air between them. It felt as though the progress they had made was crumbling before them. Their eyes met briefly, both conveying a mix of embarrassment and uncertainty.
"Let's make it clear for them?" Rayaan's voice broke the silence, his eyes searching hers for agreement. She nodded, following him to the living room.
She was pleasantly surprised by the decoration. She loved fairy lights and the arrangement in the hall was enough to lift up her mood. The fresh fragrance of roses all around was an added glory. Her eyes landed on the banner in the center "Congratulations Mr and Mrs. Rayaan Oberoi" with a cute baby giving a toothy grin. The charming baby was melting her heart.
"Ahh! Bhabhi you should not be here. Go and Rest. Bhai what are you doing? How could you let Bhabhi come down? Are you fine, Bhabhi?" Aryan's concerned blabbering greeted them worry lines were popping out his forehead.
Sensing an opportunity, Rayaan intervened smoothly, "Actually, Your Bhabhi had a craving for salad, so we came down. Would you mind making it for her, Aryan Uncle?" he gave a sugary sweet smile to Aryan and stopped Meera from saying anything.
She looked at both the brothers puzzled. He should have cleared the misunderstanding instead he was increasing it more.
"Of course, Why not? Bhabhi just order me whenever you crave anything, Okay?" Aryan's enthusiasm to help was evident as he rushed to the kitchen. Meera couldn't help but smile at his eagerness, despite the absurdity of the situation.
Rayaan caught her gaze, mischief dancing in his eyes. "Remember to add beetroot," he quipped making Aryan turn back with a disgusted expression but nonetheless he ran to the kitchen.
Whatever his bhabhi says!
As he was gone, She looked at him, confusion dripping down her brows. Did he really not study biology at his school?
Rayaan's smile broadened, a playful glint in his eyes. "Just a sweet punishment - I mean, bitter."
As Aryan disappeared into the kitchen, Meera turned her attention to Rayaan's parents, who had been witnesses to the entire episode. Their eyes held a mixture of amusement and curiosity, and Meera couldn't help but blush.
"Meera, How are you feeling now? " His mother's eyes were brimming with warmth and excitement. There was a giddy feeling inside their heart at the news of being Grandparents. They were dreaming of things they would do with their Grandchild. The child will be the luckiest Child, they will spoil him.
Rayaan and Meera exchanged a glance before Rayaan cleared his throat. "Actually, we have something to share," Shifting his weight from one leg to another he looked at Meera Who appeared equally nervous.
