"They're just masses of aura shaped like men. They're weak."
He broke the stare-off with his fist as he brought his attention back to the ginger who remained in Kurapika's grasp, who sheepishly stared at the floor's tiles.
"I didn't realize it was his Nen."
The ginger shot a concerned look at you and Kurapika before speaking up himself.
"Impressive... How'd you know?"
Your partner looked at you questioningly, his expression asking whether you would like to speak. In response, you lightly shook your head with a small smile, signalling that you would prefer for him to speak, and he began without a second thought.
"You were careful to stand next to the others for camouflage, but when I watched you from above, it was clear."
Everyone listened intently as the young blond explained, and his voice remained even and free of emotions until he paused for a heartbeat, taking in a quick breath. Once he once again picked up from where he ended, his tone had changed to a darker one, his eyebrows furrowing and his eyes narrowing.
"Every one of us was under attack, except you."
Surprised gasps and intimidated gulps sounded as the last two words rang through the room, the air thickening as everyone became on edge. This switch in the presence did not bother your companion as he continued speaking, further elaborating on the flaw in the ginger man's Nen.
"I realized something was wrong when two of them appeared on the second floor. After I jumped over to the chandelier and out of their reach, they just stood there, continuing to swing their swords in a futile attempt to reach me."
You mulled over his words, and suddenly realization dawned upon you.
"They must have received a basic order to attack whichever enemy was nearest, right?" You asked, capturing Kurapika's attention. He nodded as he stared in your direction, and you could only guess that the look in his eyes hinted that he was impressed with your deduction. "Yes, that's right." He turned his head back to the others after examining you for a moment longer, and although you tried to push it down, a warm feeling filled your chest.
"The instructions the assailants had were simple, so their attacks were as well. However, it would take an incredibly skilled Nen-user to control eleven human-sized aura simultaneously. And it stands to reason that this Nen-user would most likely be an Emitter. And given the size of the aura involved, he would have to be within a few meters of the assailants. Which meant that the Nen-user..."
"...Was someone inside this very room!" You finished his words, your face painted with an expression of deep thought.
It was your turn to be impressed since even though you did come to the conclusion that someone in the room was responsible for the Nen-dummies, you had not thought of it to such an extent. You closely watched the Kurta, finally realizing just what potential this boy held in his body; not only was he exceptionally skilled in combat, but he also possessed intelligence and thinking skills superior to almost everyone you had met. It was at that moment that you felt relieved that you had him on your side — the Phantom Troupe was going to have a lot to worry about.
A bulky man whistled as you and Kurapika stopped speaking, and the others who remained silent watched the two of you closely after having come to the same realization as you had. It was the man in Kurapika's grasp that broke the silence, and similarly to the others, his complexion was anything but relaxed.
