"Well, yeah... You nailed it..." It was not difficult to hear the slight tremor in his voice, and his sweat-covered forehead only further revealed his fear and concern.
"My name is Shachmono Tocino. And as you might've guessed, I'm a Hunter." As he spoke, he held his hands up in surrender, hoping to alleviate any hostility in the air.
"Of course, I'm also an employee here, which means I'm basically your senior. Now that's cleared up, think you could put away your knife?" His eyes darted to where the blond stood behind him, his chain-free hand pressing the tip of a knife into the neck of the man he held. The blade shone as it reflected the artificial light released by the bulbs of a chandelier hanging from the ceiling, and as it moved away from the man's skin, the glint was enough to make you squint your eyes in response.
The man immediately relaxed as he sauntered over to a chair, sitting down with a loud sigh. Raising an eyebrow, he stared at Kurapika as he noted his appearance.
"Based on the chains, I think it's fairly safe to assume that you're a Manipulator, aren't you?"
Kurapika simply narrowed his eyes in return, his eyebrows lowering. You reckoned it was a look he enjoyed displaying since you have seen it several times since you entered the building.
Opposite to the blond's serious reaction, you had to turn away to hide a smug grin crossing your features, and you were pleased that no one seemed to pay attention to you.
"Well, I sure hope you won't hold a grudge. See, I was only following the orders the boss gave me: "Test the applicants by attempting to kill them." But I honestly never expected to be exposed so quickly!"
The ginger man shot you a glance, looking you up and down before saying what was on his mind.
"And your Nen ability was unlike any other I've seen before. I'd have to assume you're also a Manipulator since you made me switch off my aura."
Never in your life had you ever made such an effort to maintain a straight face, and you had never felt so relieved when the man finally turned away from you as soon as your poker face started faltering.
"Well, I'm willing to bet that the five of you working together should be able to escape the mansion. So, best of luck."
"That makes it sound like there's another one in the room." The man with the pompadour noted, looking around the room and counting five, excluding Shachmono. In return, the mole only chuckled, a sly smirk on his lips.
"I imagine that was meant to be some sort of diversion, but it was the wrong call." Kurapika's words incited feelings of surprise in the seated man, and his face contorted in such a way that openly displayed the emotions he felt at that moment.
"Before we all succumb to paranoia, I shall determine if there are any other infiltrators among us."
As he reached the end of his sentence, Kurapika extended his arm — the one with the chain — and dangled a silver ball connected from a chain to his ring finger. He then moved his arm to position it pointing at the bulky man, who stared at the hanging ball with a nervous yet innocent look. A moment passed before the teenager pointed his arm toward a very short person with a balding head and two exposed front teeth. The individual looked down at the ball with an expression free of any guilt, and even without the test you could tell they were innocent. Once again, a moment passed before Kurapika pointed at the attractive woman, and similarly to the others, the ball remained completely still.
