Chapter 16: We're Both Fine

Start from the beginning

"Yeah, well, if you keep at it there'll be none left to layer into the rest or it." An over exaggeration, for sure, but that wasn't the point. And you glared at him as he grinned back at you.

He rested the teaspoon on the counter and turned his head to glance over at the open laptop. The screen opened on the page with your degree conversions. He turned back to you and raised an eyebrow as he spoke. "Celsius? Seriously?"

"Fahrenheit? Seriously?" You mocked back at him.  "Three hundred and fifty degrees? What the hell is that? The metric system makes so much more sense."

"If you say so." Dean opting to let it slide. "Can I help?"

That was unexpected. "Um... Sure... If you want?.. But I thought you were busy searching for Abaddon..."

"The redhead can wait... Sooner this is done the sooner we can eat it right?" And he winked at you.

Dean was definitely the more domesticated out of the Winchester brothers. First impressions would allude anyone that the title went to Sam. But as you had come to know, Dean had played a parental role in Sam's life when they were growing up, and it  showed, with Dean really enjoying time in the kitchen when he had the chance.

You nodded at him. "Alright... Um, I was going to make the white sauce next. That's what the pot was for."

"You mean the one you decided to play the symbols with?" Dean adding in one last tease.

Rolling your eyes at him, trying not to laugh at yourself, you set to work measuring out the butter, milk and flour for him to mix together in the pot. The two of you made quite a team.

"What were you listening to just now?" He asked as he stirred the white goo with a large whisk to remove the lumps.

Looking up from the two large dishes you were preparing to layer the first lasagne sheet into, you hesitated on how to answer that. You doubt he knew any of the artist's names that were in the playlist, much less know the particular song that was playing as you had removed the earbuds earlier. "Um... It was a playlist I downloaded, of clubbing music."

"Clubbing?" He turned his head sideways to look at you. "Like night clubbing?"

"Yeah... A, a lot of it on there is, well, the stuff that was playing in the club the night... I was abducted..." You looked down, hands gripping the bench in front of you.

"I haven't listened to any of it since, you know... But, after yesterday, the tequila shot at the bar, it made me wanna." And you smiled at the nostalgia. "Have you ever been to a night club?.. No offence, but you just don't seem like the type that would enjoy it."

Dean scoffed at you, his body language speaking to you as, that's a stupid question. "Nope... Well once... I met a girl at a bar and she insisted I go with her to one... Naturally, I went with her, and then went home with her..."

You laughed at the honestly. You knew from watching the man himself, to hearing stories from Sam and Kevin, that Dean was promiscuous. Something he was clearly unashamed of, and you had to admit it was refreshing. The guy had confidence within himself but as you had come to know him, he was also sweet, kind and generous. If only the ladies he wooed, knew his true self.

"So, did you pay attention to the music, or were you just there to try and get laid?" You were comfortable enough to ask him the question, but he was surprised.

"What do you think?" He chuckled at you.

You quipped back. "You can still enjoy the surroundings."

"Oh I was." And Dean looked back over to you, a huge smirk on his stupid face. All you could do in response was shake your head, lips pursed, trying not to give him the satisfaction of laughing with him.
