"I don't know. Target practice?" The intonation in Dean's voice formed it as a question.
Sam wasn't having it. "Come on, man. I'm serious. You sure it wasn't....I don't know, demon residue or something to do with the mark, or..."
"No. No, none of that." Dean insisted he was good apparently, no matter how many times Sam posed a question.
Sam was clearly worried about him again and you wondered if you should be too. "Right. Look man, I got to be honest..."
Dean cut Sam off. "Oh my God, Sam. It was my first kill since I've been back. You know, I got a little anxious. I wanted to make sure it was done right, plain and simple. It's... Why am I even explaining this to you?" And he turned the stereo volume up, so that the conversation would end.
Dean continued to drive until after you had passed a few towns, wanting to get some distance between you and the New Canaan Police. You picked up dinner at a small diner, the only place open in town, sitting together very awkwardly in the establishment as none of you had much to say to each other. It was shortly around midnight before you pulled into the parking lot and Sam went to check you all in.
Having now turned down the music, Dean twisted his body to face you and this time you allowed yourself to look back at him. "You know, before when I, handcuffed you..." He paused as you glared at him and he had to clear his throat. "You, ah, elbowed me... That was good... Sam's taught you well..."
"Didn't do me much good though did it?... You still grabbed me..." You knew he was trying to give you a compliment but by bringing up the handcuff situation, he brought upon himself your frustrations again.
He smirked. "Yeah... I did... But who do you think taught Sam that?... If that was someone like Dash in that situation, instead of me, you would've got away."
"I shouldn't have needed to get away from my friend like that Dean..." You spat back at him.
"You're right... But your friends back home wouldn't have had you in a situation like that... Our lives are dangerous and you wanna stay well away from it..."
Your face scrunched up at that. "Dean that 'situation' was supposed to be a normal house visit. You had no way of knowing that there'd be a monster there..." His face told you there was no way you would win him over with your point. So you paused and turned the conversation another way. "You're not going to do it again right?" You asked submissively.
"Do what?" Dean looked at you confused.
"Use the handcuffs on me again like that... I would've listened, eventually." His eyes narrowed at you. "Dean... That detective really scared me yesterday okay... I brushed it off when you asked. Made the joke about the Teletubby, that was true, I did call him that... I just... Maybe it's some weird kind of Stockholm syndrome or something, you said we were like family once. And when you cuffed me, well..."
You lowered your head down and shook it, changing your train of thought again. "You said you wouldn't apologise for doing it..." You began again, before Dean cut in with a "Damn straight."
"Just, please don't do it again..."
As Dean opened his mouth to reply, Sam opened the passenger door to the car and got back inside, room keys in hand. Rather than finishing what he had started to say, Dean turned around and started the engine once again, moving Baby with the directions Sam gave him over to the room you would all be sharing that night.
Upon entering the room, you discovered as with the last motel room, this one was once again a twin. And with no rollaway in sight, it meant that no doubt, you would end up sharing with the man you currently wanted nothing to do with.
