Chapter 29: Happy Birthday Glowworm

Start from the beginning

You cleared your throat and went back to looking at the old piece of paper you currently had sitting before you. And you were relieved when Sam's phone went off, saving you from the scrutiny of Dean's next wise crack.

Sam answered his phone with a big grin. "No way, heh! Jody! How's it going?"

Jody was a contact in your phone, even though you had never spoken to or met the woman in person. You knew she was a Sheriff in South Dakota and a good friend, not only to the boys, but to their adoptive father Bobby, who had passed away a few years ago.

"Wow. Sounds like a blast..." Sam continued as Dean waved his arm in Sam's direction in a silent greeting. "Uh, Dean says hi... Yeah. Uh, right. Sorry about that... Good, good. Uh, you know what, hold on a sec, I'm gonna put you on speaker..."

And Sam set his phone down on the table, pressing the speaker button, allowing Jody to hear the room, and you all to hear her.

Dean continued the conversation. "Hey, Jody. How's Alex holding up?"

"She's doing great. Already head of the cheerleading squad..." You heard Jody's voice for the first time. She sounded kind and you hoped that you might get to meet her sometime soon. While you loved hanging out with the boys, you missed the company of other females.

Sam looked over at you and noticed you were listening intently. "Hey, ah Jody... You remember the Australian girl we told you about?"

"The one that was abducted by, angels, was it?... Wait... Is she still staying with you two?" Jody asked curiously.

Sam and Dean both looked over at you and encouraged you to speak up. "Um... Hey, Jody... Nice to talk to you..." You spoke up, not really knowing what to say.

"Hey yourself! We'll have to convince those boys to bring you out to visit me sometime... I'm sure you could use some female company once in a while. Hanging out with guys all the time, especially those two, must get a bit much." You liked Jody. And it was clear she had a close relationship with the brothers, considering the way she'd just teased them like that.

"Hey!" Dean cut in.

But Jody ignored him, as did you, giggling along with her instead. "I can't complain when they're in the room with me..."

"Nah, give 'em hell..." Jody's voice chuckled before turning serious. "Listen boys, this may not be your kind of thing, but a body was found here this morning, and something has gone to chow town on it."

Instantly Sam and Dean's moods went from playful to alert. Sam asking Jody, "Uh, was the throat ripped out?"

"Worse. I'm hearing that all the flesh had been eaten down to the bones. Any ideas?" Jody replied.

Both boys considered her response before Dean added "Well, it's not a vampire." While Sam admitted he had no idea.

The boys offered to help Jody out, insisting it was no trouble for them to come to her and check out the issue themselves. But Jody denied the offer, letting them know she should be able to handle it. Followed by saying her goodbyes and going back to the Sheriff's retreat she was currently at.

When the call disconnected, Dean looked over at Sam, practically begging with puppy dog eyes that they go along anyways. And in defeat, Sam agreed stating "All right. Let's take a drive."

Unfortunately for you, with the case happening around a Sheriff retreat, it was decided that it was too dangerous for you to tag along on this one.

"We don't know if any of the participants there are from the jurisdiction you were found in or not. Sorry sweetheart. It's best that you stay here." Dean informed you. "I'll punch Officer Teletubby in the face for you if I see him though." It was a nice thought, but you frowned in response, causing him to chuckle.
