"Shows how little kindness there was in her life. You know, whatever Randy did, he didn't deserve..." Cass trailed off, deciding it best not to finish his sentence.
"He didn't deserve to be killed like that? No he didn't..." Dean finished the sentence for him instead. His voice was quiet as his left hand danced across the Mark of Cain on his right arm.
"There was a time I was a hunter, not a stone-cold killer... You can say it. You're not wrong. I crossed the line. Guys, we gotta get rid of it." Dean was looking back and forth between Sam and Cass.
The brothers had been through all of their resources in the bunker and even the internet over the last few weeks and they had come up with squat. Cass repeated to the brothers what he had told you. It would take a very powerful force to get rid of the mark and brushed aside Dean's first idea to "burn the thing off." Telling him it would get them nowhere.
But then Cass remembered something called the Demon Tablet and while they had no idea where it was, they knew someone who would be able to read it. Possibly remember what was contained in it even. Metatron. the angel who had written it. He was still locked in Heaven after Dean had attacked him months earlier.
You were trying to follow along as best as you could with their conversation, but were frustrated that a lot of it went over your head. As tired as you were, you planned to stay up late and look up all the things they'd mentioned. You needed to catch up on everything so as to be sure that when the time came, you'd be able to step up and help. Whether they liked it or not.
It was agreed in the end. That Sam and Cass would retrieve Metatron from Heaven and bring him back to the bunker. It was risky even for Sam to attend Heaven's gate with Cass, let alone Dean and the Mark of Cain. Therefore, you and Dean were left alone in the bunker.
The mood was quiet. Not exactly like old times, but you enjoyed it anyway. You wanted to ask Dean how he was. But Sam had warned you against bringing up any conversation from that night before he left. In particular that you had seen the bodies. As it turned out, Dean was unaware that you had seen what he had done.
Rather than cooking, you went for a drive out in Baby to pick up some pizzas from the single Italian restaurant in town. Dean had his regular, pepperoni, while you had yours, Hawaiian. There was no banter that night about pineapple not belonging on pizza. You hoped because he was used to your choices by now and not for some other, supernatural reason.
"Wanna watch a movie or something?" Dean asked after you'd finished eating.
You really wanted to do that research, but the chance to be close to him won over. "Sure. What were you thinking? We're all caught up on Game of Thrones."
He thought for a second. "Your choice. Put on one of your Disney or girly movies if you like. Let's just... Stay away from any action or blood..."
That was fine by you. But you didn't want him to spoil it by complaining or calling out dumb things in the good parts. "As long as you keep your lips shut on anything corny. No spoiling the moment."
Dean chuckled at that. "Deal... I'll get some popcorn while you decide. Your room?"
You ended up choosing Baz Luhrmann's 'Australia'. A long one but it was a taste of home. And a chance to perv on Hugh Jackman. Honestly though, you wanted to test Dean and see if he'd comment on objectifying the actor again. Which he did, thankfully. So you knew the old Dean was in there somewhere, just quieter.
The two of you sat on your bed, Dean asking questions throughout about your home country. If it really looked like that and if the people actually spoke like that. You revealed that you had been to the small town of Bowen, where they filmed most it, around the time it was being made.
