Chapter 36: One Whole Year

Start from the beginning

You still had the block of Cadbury chocolate the boys had bought you for your birthday, and you brought it along with you, planning to share it with the Sheriff. Remembering as you had grown up, that it was always polite to bring something with you when visiting someone's house.

Jody greeted Sam and Dean first when you arrived. "Here they are!" Giving both men a hug, which they kindly received.l, she then turned to you, calling your name excitedly. "It's so good to finally see you in person. Come here!" Jody pulled you into a hug as well.

"So is g'day appropriate for this time of day?" She asked curiously as she wrapped an arm around your shoulder.

"Um... I don't really say it myself, but yeah, it doesn't matter when you use it." You replied politely. It was honestly something you only had heard guys say, old ones at that.

Dean looked at you at that. "So that's why I've only heard you use it once? Is that the same for mate then too?"

"Pretty much. I just use mate for kids mostly..."You remembered back to the early days when you'd first met him. He'd tried calling you mate and you'd over ridden him with friend. You didn't have the courage to tell him that Aussie guys generally referred to their friends as cunts and those they disliked as mates. Back then and still now.

Jody was only a few years older than Dean. Making her closer to ten years your senior. But that didn't matter. She was lovely and the two of you got along really well. As did you and Alex, the young girl Sam and Dean had helped Jody save from a nest of vampires. She was a couple of years younger than Claire, but almost the exact opposite. A cheerleader and a popular girl at her school by the sounds of it.

You had planned to stay in Sioux Falls for two nights. Jody had insisted that the three of you stay with her but you had all agreed you didn't want to put her out. Opting to stay at a motel in the centre of town instead. While you were there, Sam and Dean were planning to swing by the house and auto repairs shop that Bobby once owned.

The first evening you were there, Jody cooked for you all. A beef brisket with mashed potatoes, a variety of steamed vegetables and dinner rolls. Her cooking was amazing and it reminded you of your mum's.

"This is awesome." Dean commented through a mouthful of food. "Do you guys always eat like this?"

You had to hold back your chuckle as you sipped on your glass of red wine. It was actually impressive to see the man eat his vegetables. Also surprising, was Sam who was hoeing into his plate as well. All table manners lost.

Jody grinned. "Why! What do you eat?"

"When they're on the road it's all diner stuff." You replied for them as both their mouths were full like chipmunks holding acorns in their mouths for winter.

"And what about you?" Jody asked. "Sam said you cook sometimes but you've been on the road with them more lately?" She obviously knew you'd been helping them with their cases.

You smiled at that. "Yeah... I guess I have. The last thing I made was a stir fry I think... I'm thinking about trying to make a roast dinner for Christmas. Assuming we're all there..."

Sam and Dean looked at you at that, their eyes wide with delight. "Really?" Dean said through another mouthful of food and you nodded your head.

"Just don't expect anything too fancy..." You had attempted to make roasts once or twice in the past back in Australia. But they never turned out as amazing as your mum could make. This visit with Jody was turning into a recipe for home sickness, the more you thought about your mum and family, thanks to her and Alex's company.

"And what about the hunting? Have you had time to look into your abduction or have you been busy with everything else?" So she didn't know about that then.
