You looked at Dean and then at Sam, wondering if it was okay to tell Jody what you had recently discovered or not. They had warned you about letting people know, in case things got back to the wrong ones.
"What? What is it?" Jody asked curiously. Damn... There goes the chance to keep things quiet.
Sam cleared his throat. "Um... We have an update on that. We still don't know why, but it seems she was brought here by God..."
Alex dropped her fork. Jody's eyes popped out of her head.
"God? The God? Not a god, but father to Jesus, God?" Jody spluttered, trying to wrap her head around the information.
"We've dealt with angels. Does it really surprise you that much?" Dean asked.
You just glared at him as Sam gave her the lowdown on everything that had happened in the previous month. This lead to more questions on how the protection spell worked on your body, to scrutinising about your friends back in Sydney. And then Jody brought up your family.
"You must miss them?" She asked kindly.
Yeah. You did. And this time of year was just becoming harder and harder.
"Alright. Ham or pork?" You asked Sam as the two of you stood in the meat section of the largest supermarket close to the bunker.
It was the day before Christmas Eve and the chances of finding a case before the main Christian holiday were slim. Today had been the cut off you had all agreed to. If no cases came about, you would all stay in Lebanon for the entire holidays, until the New Year. Dean was somewhere close by gathering alcohol and snacks. He had decided that that task suited his talents, and taste buds more.
"I dunno Glowworm. You're the chef for this. Ham is more christmassy right? That or turkey..."
No Sam, turkey was out of the question and you made sure to tell him so. "Yeah... I have no clue about turkey, so it's pig, or pig..." It looked like you had to make the executive decision. You loved Christmas ham. It was the best thing about Christmas growing up for you, but you knew that would lead to more home sickness. And pork crackling when done right was even better. So you selected a large leg of pork. "Pork it is. You guys will thank me if I get the crackling right."
"Crackling? What's that?" Sam asked. Surely he wasn't serious.
"You know the skin, when it goes all crispy. It's the best bit!" But Sam still seemed confused. "You've eaten roast pork before right?"
He shook his head. "Uh. No actually. We never really celebrated the holidays growing up. Always being on the road... This is for your benefit... That and Dean's stomach."
You giggled at that. But then your face turned sombre when you remembered the brothers circumstances growing up. Your hand reached up to touch his arm. "Then let's get a ham too and go all out. That was always my favourite part of Christmas. You guys should experience it at least once... We know it won't go to waste with your brother."
Sam asked a question you realised you dreaded. "Why did you choose the pork first then?"
"Mostly, to not think of back home..." You admitted as you moved towards the ham section of the meat cooler. Changing the subject as you continued. "I really don't know anything about turkey. Otherwise I'd try that for you too. That always seemed like the big American thing."
"Yeah. I guess it is. But you're already doing enough." Sam looked down into the shopping trolley he was pushing. The two of you had already selected vegetables and fruit. It was just the pantry and other perishable items you needed now. "What else do we need?"
