STEVE LED HIS GIRLFRIEND UP THE BLEACHERS, her hand in his. Just as they got to their spot in the middle of the crowd, the crowd began to cheer, the basketball team running in. Steve and Mickey began to cheer loudly for the boys... well, Lucas.
"Steve." The boy turned to look behind him, seeing Brenda, a girl who used to be in a few of his classes. The now senior had always had a crush on him, and he knew that so he didn't try to give her too much of his attention or energy. "Does it bother you that, like, we might win a championship right after you graduated?"
"Yeah, not really." The Harrington boy turned away from Brenda, looking towards Mickey, who wasn't even paying attention to the one sided conversation behind her.
"Hey, uhm, Steve?" The tall boy took a deep breath, turning to the girl again, clearly just trying to watch his friend warm up. "I always thought you were the best player on the team. It's a shame you graduated so I can't watch you play anymore. Now, I have to sit in English by myself." The Harrington boy watched as the girls cheeks flushed a dark shade of red, her friends smiling and giggling beside her. "I was also wondering, if you'd be free next Saturday? Maybe we can go to the movies, get ice cream?"
"I don't think I'll be able to. And I hate ice cream."
"Come on, Steve. It's just a date. And I didn't know you hated ice cream. We can do something else. Plus, who knows, maybe one date could lead to another." The boy shook his head as the girl sighed.
"I can't, Brenda." Steve thought about apologizing for rejecting her
"You're just one of the best looking guys in Hawkins, I'd hate to miss out on a chance with you." Steve huffed, placing his hand on Mickeys outer hip, turning her so she would face the girls behind her.
"Brenda, have you met my girlfriend? Mickey, meet Brenda. Brenda, meet Mickey." This was the last thing Steve wanted to do, embarrass the senior but he knew he would have to after she didn't get the hint. The blondes smile immediately dropped as Mickey gave her a smile.
"Hi, how do you know Steve?"
"Oh, you have a girlfriend? I didn't know that." Mickey turned to Steve in confusion, as the Harrington boy nodded his head with a smile.
"Yeah, so I don't think I'm gonna be able to hang out next Saturday, or any other day for that matter. Mick and I have plans." Brenda sighed, excusing herself as she made her way down the bleachers, the couple turning back to face the warmups in front of them. Her friends were quick to follow her, leaving their seats empty.
"Did you just use me to stop getting hit on by a girl?" The tall boy grinned, looking down at his girlfriend with a soft nod, making her chuckle.
"What? She clearly wasn't getting it." Mickey softly smiled as she looked up at her boyfriend, loving the way he would stare into her eyes. "I'm surprised you didn't hear her asking me." The Mayfield girl shrugged her shoulders as she answered.
"I guess I just didn't feel the need to turn around. I knew you could handle it on your own." The Harrington boy grinned, glad that she trusted him to handle things on his own, because most of his exes didn't let that happen.
"You aren't jealous or anything?" The red head looked up at him, shaking her head.
"You didn't flirt back, did you?" The boy quickly shook his head as the girl questioned again. "Neither of you touched each other, right?" Steve shook his head again as the Mayfield girl shrugged nonchalantly. "Then I don't have a reason to be jealous or not trust you. Now, get ready, the games starting."
