Chapter 33 - Idle in the Void

Start from the beginning

"Eda, do you have any idea what might have happened to Amity?" I asked, hoping to get at least a prediction. After all, Eda was my mentor and knew quite a lot of spells.

"From the top of my head, nothing. Whatever you described sounds like extremely powerful magic, though I think that Blights are fully capable of conducting even the most complicated spells. The thing that worries me the most is that it is probably connected to Odalia's oracle magic and such spells are difficult to reverse."

That wasn't what I wanted to hear, I hoped for better news. It seemed like I would have to fight Amity once again and by no means I wanted this to happen. I wasn't even sure if I would be able to take her on, especially now in this cold, calculative state. "Eda, I'm not sure if I can..."

"Leave Amity to me." Willow said before I could finish, "I'm not so emotionally attached, you will go with Eda and help others."

"Fine, and what's our plan then?" I asked Eda.

"Well, you know, the usual, we go in and then we think of something."

"Eda, I might not be fully objective here, but Amity is excellent at planning, if we just go in there is no way that we will succeed."

"Ugh, whatever, we can form a plan, but if I were you I would wait a little with it. We have to see what the situation in Bonesborough looks like."

The situation in Bonesborough looked grim, let's say there will be a lot of rebuilding to do if we manage to hold the emperor's coven off. It was Latissa all over again but on a bigger scale. When we landed in the city we had no idea what we should start with. Ultimately, we decided that we had to find someone to assist us.

We fought ourselves a way to one of the emergency command centers, though it wasn't an easy thing to do. Contrary to the previous attacks, this one didn't consist only of coven scouts but also those annoying abomatrons. Probably the worst thing that ever came out of Blight Industries.

It turned out that the command center was changed into a field hospital, overflown with wounded witches. It meant that no one would help us anytime soon. We questioned a few healers and managed to get some information about Raine's and Lilith's whereabouts. We wanted to go look for them together, but I was struck by a sudden realization. My mom was still in the demon realm, I had to get to the Owl House ASAP. Eda and Willow were not going to stop me, but neither of us liked the idea of another split up since the last time it didn't end well.

As much as I hated making such a decision, I had to get my mom back home. I rushed to the Owl House through the forest, hoping that it was far away enough to be overlooked by the emperor's coven. Wishful thinking... I shouldn't be even surprised at this point.

As soon as I reached the familiar clearing and saw the Owl House I was greeted by Amity.

"Took you long enough, human." She said, once again with a diabolical smirk, "I expected you would come here, but I had no idea you brought more of your kind here."

My heart skipped a beat. I was too late. "What have you done with her?!" I couldn't believe what was happening. I got my mom in grave danger, and all that because I couldn't pull my shit together.

"That should be the last of your concerns right now, but considering the care in your voice I would guess I have some leverage over you, don't I?"

"You wouldn't dare..."

"I very much would, so what, unconditional surrender?" Amity asked without a hint of hesitation.

I couldn't risk my mother's safety but a glimpse of hope appeared right as I was about to surrender. It seemed like Hooty was waking up from whatever happened to him if I could only stall a little. "Fine, I surrender, wanna cuff me yourself?" I asked in a provoking manner.
