I followed his direction of sight, unsure what had caught his attention but through the early morning mist there was something...
He shouted to one of the crew in Lupinese and i watched as the nimble young man climbed quickly into the crows nest, looking down the scope of a spyglass.
The Tork Sea wasn't just dangerous because of it's famous storms but also because of the people who call it home.
To encounter them so early... only half a day at sea was uncommon, strange even.
I glanced up at Lothian again and we shared a look, he was thinking the same exact thing i was.
If that was a pirate ship then they had been watching, waiting until the ship was stocked again before making the risk to attempt to board.
At such a distance they wouldn't be able to tell what this ship carried but the sails would signify the origin of the ship.
My country didn't have any sort of trading agreement with the Prince's, so the voyage was clearly diplomatic.
We had no precious cargo, so why...?
The boy in the crows nest shouted something back and the whole deck erupted into controlled chaos.
Prince Lothian spun me around in his grip, his expression gravely serious. "Barracade yourself in my cabin, do it now!" He urged, gently pushing me in the right direction.
"Bu-" i tried to protest, i was no vulnerable damsel, i could protect myself and i wanted to help defend the ship.
He growled, the deep rumble shocked me into silence.
He looked frustrated and notably worried. "Please." He begged, glancing back out to sea to gauge how long we had left until the pirates were in range, and from his expression the wind wasn't in our favour.
"I won't be able to properly defend the ship if i'm worried for your safety. So please, do as i ask."
I wanted to argue but i knew he was right. We might not be wed yet but i was his responsibility now, it was his job to keep me safe, i couldn't be mad at him for that.
"Okay." I relented with a sigh, leaning up and pressing a quick kiss to his lips.
I pulled away and went to head for his cabin when i was pulled back, he gave me a fierce and searing kiss that left me breathless before slapping my ass to get me moving.
I reached the cabin area and looked back briefly, seeing him commanding his crew, voice strong and clear. His crew snapped out of their panic and followed his calm and precise orders.
I was in awe... this man was to be my husband?
He'd already proved himself to be a better man than most in my country. He wanted someone to love, not someone to own and use. I found myself slowly becoming okay with the arrangement and hoped i could be happy with him, and in turn make him happy.
I made it to his cabin and locked the door behind me, wedging a chair beneath the handle. I looked around for other items but all of the larger furniture was bolted to the floor for safety.
What wasn't secured wouldn't stop anyone so i moved deeper into the room. His was larger than my own, as was expected with him being the captain of the ship. Aside from the large cot there was a desk with a nautical map on it, more maps and papers in the draws or secured to a wall with pins.
Further back was a small area that functioned as a bathroom. A barrel full of water for washing, a bucket, washcoths, brushes and oils filled the space that was illuminated by a portwhole window.
