"Come on, Eda. We haven't even started."
They arrived at school. Eda landed, and they jumped from the staff.
"Last chance to back out and earn a new Bad Girl Coven patch," Eda said, holding up a Quitter Badge while they put on their backpacks. "Quitting, it's like trying but easier."
"Nah, I'll just earn it when I quit showering," Luz remarked as she, Hazel, and Bijou dashed away. "Bye!"
Eda took off her hand. "Hold up!" She threw her hand behind Luz's head, twisting her around to face Eda. Bijou stared at her. "Just try not to be too much of a goody-Luz-shoes," Eda said, taking her hand back. And, Bijou, I know you're in a separate class, but you should make the most of your first day, right? You cannot spend your entire time here thinking about Luz or anything else. You've both got this. And can you be on your best behavior, Hazel?"
Hazel nodded in response. Hazel nodded in response. Bijou rolled her eyes at herself, as she always looked out for Luz ever since they met. This is because of her big sister instincts that she got when she had Quinton the time he was born.
"Thanks, Eda. In fact, Bijou and I have written a heartfelt sonnet to commemorate this occasion," she said, pulling sock puppets of herself and Eda from her pockets.
"Oops! A gust of wind just got me," Eda exclaimed as she flew away. "See you girls after school! Byeeee!"
"Guess we might tell her about the sonnet later," Bijou replied.
"You're gonna do great, kid," Luz smiled as she acted out Eda. "Thanks, puppet Eda."
"Come on, girls. The school awaits," Hazel urged as they began their way.
They arrived at the school, where there was a large banner welcoming the pupils, as well as nine banners for the Covens. Students were conversing while parading around school supplies. The three meet Amity and her monstrosity.
"Hey, Luz, Bijou," she said with a smile. "Congrats on getting in. And not being in the baby class. Hello to you, too, Hazel."
"Thanks, Amity. Up top," Luz extended her hand for a high five. Amity slapped her palm as the creature splattered muck into her face. The two exited, and Luz wiped the filth away.
"Wow! Our first days at Hexside. A chance to discover our true magical potential, and maybe meet a hot yet vulnerable upperclassman."
"Don't try pushing that one, girl," Bijou snickered as Hazel hopped onto her shoulder.
"Dream on, Luz," King said, surprising them.
"King?"
"Boop!" He booped Luz's nose.
"What are you doing in Luz's bag?" Hazel inquired skeptically as King jumped to the ground.
"And how exactly did you get in there? We saw you before we left."
"You're a free ride to the best buffet in town," King told Luz, dismissing Bijou's words. He hopped into a nearby trash can, hunting for food.
"The trash cans here are filled with half-eaten gold," he said, holding out a half-donut.
"Okay. But if anyone asks, you don't know us," Luz said as they walked away.
"Have a wonderful school day, person-I-don't-know!" King exclaimed to them.
He looked up and saw an Abominations student standing next to him.
"I really needed to hear that."
"Look, there they are." Bijou pointed to the stairs, where Jackie, Willow, and Gus were.
