Chapter 2: Painful Changes

Start from the beginning

Unable to move his pupils, he instinctively turned his head from side to side, looking over the bushes and rocks and everywhere and behind him, focusing on where the monsters were likely to appear and charge. Straight away, panic and fear appeared in his body language, and as he quickly looked around, his senses stung even more, his headache worsened, his footsteps became heavier and louder, and his walking became quicker. His heart rate increased, and the pain increased even more. But the creature didn't care; rather, the pain in his heart accelerated him. He did not think about where he was going and continued to sprint at a rapid but almost constant pace, as if he had found a safe place and kept running toward it, but unfortunately that was not the case. In an instant, sharp claws swiped at his face, and he tripped and fell into a large pool of fresh water. The left side of his face bled, and the creature winced in pain—or at least he wished he truly did.

The drenched creature tried to rise from the water but was once again scratched against his tanned dorsal fins and felt boiling blood about to shoot out between his dorsal fins and towards the enemy behind him. In a few milliseconds after the attack, hot blood spurted out like quick rays of light, and the sprayed monster let out a frustrated growl when hit by the bunch, grabbing the creature's tail and throwing him against a sea rock with a thud, the remaining blood draining from his back. As it approached the creature lying and bleeding against the sea rock, its tail mightily struck him in the ribs like a club, leaving him weak and squirming in pain from fractured ribs. When it saw the creature, his googly eyes lacked expression, but his body language was full of discomforted emotion, which interested the monster a tiny bit, yet the notion didn't matter too much to it. The creature watched as the skeleton-headed monster licked its mouth mockingly with its forked tongue; it then swiftly moved closer with its drooling mouth, ready to have a meal. The wounded creature tried to squirm away, but the creeping skull monster grabbed him tightly with both of its four fingered hands, opening its mouth and exposing its sharp saliva-dripping teeth.

Just when he thought he was going to die a slow and painful death, he noticed red tentacles larger than himself that looked like they had just emerged from the water and were about to eat the monster. Sensing that something suspicious is happening behind it, the monster slowly closes its drooling mouth and steadily turns its head to see what's behind it. Unable to react in time, a single tentacle turns into multiple tentacles that jump out of the water all at once, instantly wrapping around the monster and gradually trying to pull it into the water with stronger force. The monster screamed and tried to pry the tentacles off. Realizing that it doesn't have enough strength to rip the tentacles from its body, it quickly digs its claws into the grass as a last resort to avoid being dragged underwater. Pressing his side against the bloody rock he was lying on, the creature flinched as the skull monster reached out and attempted to drag him to its death, but the tentacles advanced on the monster's limbs and started to snap its bones like basic twigs with brute strength, immediately dragging the painfully screaming monster's whole body away into the water. Since the monster was underwater for a few seconds, moments passed, and out of the blue water, the creature heard a roar and the sound of heavy water splashing. He witnessed the entire struggle between the skull monster and what he thought to be the squid monster, and as the skull monster tried to pull itself up from the depths, another tentacle grabbed its broken, flimsy arm and pulled it back into the water. The water splash became more intense, the water flow became more violent, and the skull monster's distressed roar became louder.

Although he was a little far from the water's surface, the splash was violent enough to cover the creature with water. Eventually, the skull monster's splashing and roar gradually became silent, and blood quickly began to spread from the water surface. It has been killed by the squid monster, and it may be slowly eaten by it. Rather relieved, but still hurt and in pain, the creature felt every muscle in his body stretch as he tried to push himself off the bloody rock. The once bloody scratch marks on his face had already healed into scars that would probably disappear later on, and he could feel the hurting side of his shattered ribs starting to grow back painfully. The creature then growled in a more developed voice, but it didn't last long as he had a sore throat again, and he rose from the slightly bloody ground and began to drool some blood. Slowly, but barely keeping his balance, he moved away from the bloody rock. As he intended to leave the island and walk down a different path in search of another safe place, he felt his injured dorsal fins heal and return to normal, but the moment he unexpectedly closed his mouth, which had been open for a long time, he abruptly stopped walking.
