Chapter 2: Painful Changes

His legs trembled uncontrollably; his body was starting to change; and the creature struggled with intense pain in his muscles, leaning forward in an attempt to relieve it. However, this movement caused him to inadvertently raise his head, and he slammed his tail against the ground behind him, further intensifying his pain. The creature was acutely aware that the bones within his flesh that connected to his stump were starting to shift and move, and the excruciating pain was almost unbearable. Nevertheless, his sharp toes provided the stability he needed when digging deep into the ground. As the creature's back unintentionally arched into a hunched position, his once bright yellow scales began to tear and turn a bloody brownish-red hue, resembling exposed skin. He remained silent throughout the agony, but suddenly his stumps began to morph into small forearms. His vision blurred for a moment, and as the pain increased, his burning eyes contracted painfully. As his body changed, his excruciating sensations continued to worsen. The tissue began to change shape and move around inside his throat, and at the same time, his stomach boiled so violently that he felt the lining dissolve. The bones in his legs experienced growth and movement; the pain he was already enduring was worsening.

His gills are contracting, his insides are getting hotter by the minute, and the loud sound of wet bones and flesh crunching makes him wonder what's happening to him, aside from the heat and blood coming out of his mouth. He feels scared. He wanted to vomit it all out. That would calm him down and make him feel better. The grotesque sound of bones cracking echoes throughout the area he's in, and soon the creature's spine begins to painfully repair itself, crackling as the creature's body begins to grow, pumping blood straight through his veins and releasing hot air out of the tip of his tail like a hissing teapot. When he felt the pain all at once, he glanced into the sky, and a painful roar echoed through it from his mouth. The pain was too severe for him to endure, and so was the overheating. He realized that he needed a place to cool off and that his bloody rib injury healed painfully quickly, but his stomach was filled with hot, boiling blood, and he began to move slowly, staggering back and forth but amazingly keeping his balance despite the urge to throw up everything inside him.

His mind began to recall the many pains and adversities he had encountered on his journey, and he started reflecting on them in turn.
