You are so goddamn smug.
"I know, I normally am... And I normally do." Juliette rolled her eyes, wanting to fight her on that just to keep her humble, but it wasn't possible, because Shelby was right. She was normally pretty logical; she had a good head on her shoulders... She was the brains of the operation, and the beauty.
Juliette was just there.
"That's... Yeah, good point. You're very logical." Shelby's beaming smile made her hand itch to smack her on the arm... She wasn't gonna do it because Shelby had done nothing to earn it, but sometimes she still got the urge.
"I know." Okay, shut the fuck up. Her tone was a bit much.
"Okay, the attitude wasn't needed on that." Juliette said, and Shelby shrugged, tucking her hands into her pockets as she rocked back on her heels, looking no less cocky than she had when the conversation had started.
Amazing.
"It wasn't attitude, it was confidence." She said, and Juliette sighed, shaking her head. With Shelby, that could technically be considered the same thing. Cockiness was just confidence in disguise sometimes... Or maybe it was the other way around, either way they were mirrors of each other.
"Same difference." Shelby paused then, her mouth opening and closing for a few seconds like she was doing her best to figure out a way to fight the allegations that had been given to her, but it was really no use, she'd known what she was doing when she bestowed them upon her.
Shelby sighed a moment later, nodding as she did.
Good. Defeated. I win.
"... Okay well... Fair enough, good point." That was exactly right, and if she'd tried to fight it, Juliette would've been more than glad to remind her of all the many ways that she was wrong.
"You ready?" She asked, and Shelby nodded, reaching over to squeeze her hand softly. Well, at least one of them was excited, right?
Juliette was sure she'd get there, she just had to give herself time to adjust to the world.
"Mhm." Shelby looked at her seriously, as if the answer that came out of Juliette next would tell her everything she needed to know. "Are you?" Oh. Was that it? That was a pretty basic ass question to have that kind of reaction to, especially when she knew the answer.
Juliette was never ready for things like this, the idea of the sting of rejection was enough to make her want to run for the hills, but it was happening either way.
"Obviously not, but gotta do what we gotta do, right?" She asked, a weak smile on her face as she drummed her hands on her thighs. Shelby rested her head against Juliette's for a moment as let out a heavy sigh.
"Right..." She pulled back, tucking some hair from Juliette's face as she gave her a kind smile. "Let me know if you need to leave." That didn't need to be said, she'd be walking right out the door without saying a word if she had to leave, Shelby would simply have to chase her down and hope for the best. That was part of her charm.
"I will." She unbuckled her seatbelt, quickly slipping out her door before walking slowly away from the car backwards. Now who's taking their sweet ass time? Not me anymore. Loser. "C'mon." She called, still hearing Shelby let out a heavy sigh from inside the car before she crawled out, giving Juliette a look.
"You were the one holding us up, but... Okay." Shelby mumbled, and Juliette rolled her eyes, looking back at her for a moment as she did. Just because Shelby was right about that didn't mean that she had to point it out right now, that just felt like overkill.
