06 - Trial and Error

So, we made our way through the tunnel. On the other end were some obstacles straight out of Super Mario. Out of everything I was expecting, this was not one of them. Kaede, you better have a freakin plan.

In the end, there was no plan. Kaede led the way until she got tired, and then the next person led.. We just tried to parkour our way through, which didn't work by the way. Everyone eventually got injured or too tired to continue.

We returned to the open space we originally entered and sulked. Someone had to carry Kaede back because she blacked out. I don't even know how it happened! I think she got hit with something. I knew this was a terrible idea.

Kirumi stayed beside Kaede until she woke up. Everyone was quiet and the high-spirited atmosphere from before died. I knew it wouldn't work but for some reason, I felt disappointed too. I had a tiny bit of hope that we'd make it out.

As if we needed any more commotion, Monokuma popped out of nowhere. 

"Geez, this is quite the pity party you sadsacks are throwing for yourselves!"

Then the monokubs showed up. I'd rather just die like, right now.

"Tch... So you guys crawled outta your holes. I guess you finally noticed what we were up to" Kaito growled. Monokuma put a hand to his chin and chuckled. "...Noticed? I've known for a while you guys would botch whatever escape plan you had"

"f you knew all along, then this was just a trap"

"See!" I yelled. "This was useless. There is no exit!" Kaede looked upset. I knew she had high hopes for us getting somewhere but it's kinda hard to think we'd ever make it out that easily.

"...No, there's an exit"

 "I think you guys'll manage to reach it if you all work together!"

"Puhuhu. And if at first, you don't succeed..." Monokuma snickered. Every time he laughed, I knew he was mocking us no matter how encouraging he sounded. "...try, try again. Try as many times as you want until you accept reality!"

There was no hope. We were going to be stuck here forever. I tried to keep my composure and not break down like every other time I heard some life-shattering news, but it's hard when you know your life is literally gone. You won't ever see the outside world again. Everyone you know and love, everything you worked hard for..

"Forget about Monokuma. It doesn't matter what he says to us.. I Don't want to lose to him! I don't want any of you to lose either!"

I instantly knew who that was. Not only was her voice insanely recognizable, Kaede was the only one out of the 17 of us who would ever speak up to say something like that during a disaster. I wish I could see things her way.

 "I refuse to lose to someone who would do these terrible things to us! So let's all work hard to escape this place together! And once we get out of here and make it to the outside world..." Kade's sentence ended quietly. Her much-determined face settled into a soft smile.

"Why don't we all stay friends?"

 "...F-Friends?"

"Yeah... After going through an experience like this, I think we'd all be the best of friends. I mean, it's not every day you get to meet other Ultimates... ...So what do you say?"

I think I'd need someone like Kaede in my life. Maybe someone like her was what I'd been missing. Someone genuine and selfless. I looked over to the Blonde, who noticed me almost immediately. "I'd actually like that" I nervously smiled.
