"Twice."

I ring the bell and Tyler walks out. "You want the usual?"

"Yes. And some help."

He gives me a quizzical look. "What would that help be?"

"Where is the original pilgrim meeting house from the 1600's?"

"What's left of it is out in the Cobham Woods. It's basically a ruin."

"Show me."

"There, but, look, it's kind of sketchy. Squatters and meth heads use that place as a crash pad. My dad has it cleared out every couple weeks." I nod letting him know that I understand. "What's this about."

"Nothing."

"You're getting very obsessed with the whole monster in the woods thing."

"Would you rather I develop an obsession with horses and boy bands?"

"Do you need a ride?"

"No. I can handle myself well in the outdoors."

"Don't tell me you were a girl scout."

"I could eat a girl scout for breakfast."

With that I leave and go to the ruin. Thing on my shoulder as I enter. "I was expecting more."

"Who are you taking to little girl?"

"If you address me using the words little and girl again I cannot guarantee your safety."

"This is my place! Get out!" People so are angry and for what?

"Thing. A hand here?" Thing crawls the man and pulls on his beard. The man screams then runs away.

"There's nothing here." Thing taps his fingers. "No I can't just touch something. My visions are as predictable as shark attacks." Thing taps more. "I would rather dye my hair pink than ask my mother for advice."

I go around touching things, needing to prove to Thing that my visions are not controlled by me. "Nothing." I touch something else "See?" I then go to the door and my head shoots back.

I see Goody Addams being screamed at by Crackstone. He calls her a witch and a traitor. The devil himself. She gets thrown into a house that goes to get set on fire. She is talking to her mother who is telling Goody to run. To make the family legacy go on. She finally leaves and it tracked down by Crackstone himself. As I follow her when she gets threatened I feel something run cold in my body. Is this fear?

I wake up on the ground. "Thing! I saw her! The girl from my visions. Her name is Goody Addams and I believe that she is my ancestor from four hundred years ago."

As I am speaking to Thing I hear the monster. I get off of the ground to go follow it. The footprints go from monster to human. It's a person. I walk back and bump into Xavier.

I explain to him what I both saw and heard. He doesn't believe me so I show him, but of course the prints got washed away. "I promise they were there."

"Sure." I glare at him. "Look. I'm trying to keep an open mind okay. This is just too crazy for me." I sigh and watch the rain splat on where the footprints once were.

This makes so sense. "I know they were there."

"I know you're having visions." The fuck? "When did they start?"

"Around a year ago." He nods and we continue to walk. "Why do you ask?"

"You can't trust them." I tell him what I've seen. "They're only part of the picture. And they're usually based from emotions."

"I don't let emotions dictate anything. I don't even let them in."

"Figures."

When Crackstone's statue is unveiled I told Thing to set fire. When the screaming starts I continue to play the cello. The situation I'm in is calming. People screaming, somber yet somehow happy music, and chaos.

When I am done Weems forces me to speak to speak with her. "That was a disaster!"

"Thank you. But why do you think it was all me?" She stares at me. "I promise you, my hands are clean. I would have taken great honor in being the one to have set the fire. It just simply was not me."

"You are on wafer-thin ice. I'm watching you."

"Do you know the history of the outcasts? The real story of Joseph Crackstone?" She nods. "Then why be so intent on covering it up. Those who forget history are doomed to repeat it."

"Where you see doom I see opportunity." She takes a short breath. "I believe we can work together to write our own story."

"That is where you're wrong. It is either us or them. We can't both write the same story. You choose whose version you want in the books." I walk out of the room and begin my hour of writing for the day.

I don't believe in mandatory volunteer work, sugar-coated history, or happy endings, but most of all, I don't believe in coincidences.

This monster could be anyone.
