Heidi's POV

I woke up with a smile still on my face.

I went into the kitchen with the nice smell of eggs radiating from the kitchen. "Hey, mom."

"Hi, sweetie. What were you up to last night?"

"I just went to get some dinner." I said vaguely.

"Oh, I'm glad. I've noticed you've been kinda down this week. Everything okay?"

"Actually, things have been looking up. Had a rough start to the week, for sure."

"That's good. Was that Dallas who walked you home last night? I heard a guys voice, but it didn't really sound like his. Haven't seen him in a while, though."

I sighed. "Uh, no. It wasn't his. Dallas and I broke up. Sodapop walked me home last night. He's Pomyboy's brother."

"Oh! I'm sorry to hear about Dallas, sweetie. Ponyboy's a nice kid. I can only imagine his whole family is similar."

I smiled. "Yeah, Sodapop's a sweetheart. Haven't really talked to him too much before. But we got closer recently."

"Oh! Are you two- uh, do you have a thing going on with him?"

I smiled still avoiding eye contact. "Maybe a little thing."

"Well, bring him by! Your dad and I would love to meet him."

"It's a little soon. He only made it official last night."

I felt bad lying to my mom. She's so naive and it's hard to lie to her. Not that she'd get mad, but I don't want her to know how shallow I've been recently.

"Well, whenever you feel is best!"

Dad adjusted his tie as he came out of his room. "Good morning, girls." He said giving mom a kiss on the cheek.

My parents are adorable. Gross at times, but adorable. My dad loves my mom more than anything. They've been together for so long now that all they know is each other. Since high school actually. Even younger than me. I'm almost 17 and my parents started dating at 15.

I couldn't help but feel jealous of my own parents relationship. Why couldn't I have that?

But dad left for work and I decided I needed to get out again today.

Sodapop's POV

I sat down last next to Ponyboy and Darry for breakfast. "Soda, did you tell Darry yet?" Ponyboy asked.

"Tell him what?"

"About Heidi."

I looked at him and remembered that last night wasn't just a dream. "What about Heidi? Is she alright? I know Dallas probably hurt her. Haven't talked to her much since it happened."

"Someone has." Ponyboy said looking at me.

"Well... Heidi and I are together."

"Really?" Darry asked in shock. "You moved on quickly."

"So did she, apparently." Ponyboy said butting in.

"It all just happened. I dunno. We both were down about exes and we started talking and hanging out."

Darry stood up to put his dish in the sink. "You should invite her over for dinner tonight. We're both off work by four."

"Why? I mean, you both already know her." I said.

"Yeah, but it's still nice. New relationship."

"I will. But I mean, it only happened last night."

"You said it yourself. We already know her. It's not like I've never said a word to her before in my life." Darry said with a hint of sarcasm.

Ponyboy grinned and followed along to put his dish away. "I'll let her know. After y'all head to work I'll go over to her house."

"Shouldn't I invite her?" I asked.

"Hey, she's been my friend longer than you've even known her." Ponyboy said.

"Alright. Just don't make her uncomfortable. Please. Both of you."

"We're just being friendly." They both said in sync.

Heidi's POV

I was finishing up my makeup with my mascara and mom knocked on my door. "Heidi, someone's here to see you." She said.

"Oh? Alright, I'm coming."

I wondered who it would be. It wasn't Sodapop. I'm pretty sure he works Saturday mornings.

I walked out of my room and smiled when I saw Ponyboy at the door. Mom was talking to him.

"Sorry, hun. I'll get out of your hair." Mom said finishing up their conversation.

"Hey, Ponyboy. What's up?"

"Not much. Just had nothing to do and wanted to ask if you were interested in coming over for dinner tonight?"

"What?" I asked with a small smile.

"I dunno. I mean, you and Sodapop are together now, Darry offered it. I decided to come ask since Sodapop has work today."

"I mean, yeah I'll come over for dinner. But I already know y'all pretty well. And I'd like to say you all know me pretty well, too."

"It's just formality at this point. Wanna come over at six tonight?"

I gave him a small smile. "I'll be there." He waved and said goodbye, but before I closed the door I called out his name. "Ponyboy! One more thing."

"What's up?"

"You said Soda's at work?"

"Yeah. Till 4."

"Alright. Thanks. See ya tonight."

I closed the door and took a breath while waiting for him to leave. I guess I had a trip to the DX I had to make.

I grabbed my purse and decided I'd drive myself over there. Dad only goes into the office in the morning on Saturdays to check inventory so I can use the car as long as he's home.

I wondered why Soda works at the one so close to Soc territory. Him and Steve both work over here, actually.

Must pay well.

I saw Soda and Steve talking outside the gas station as I got closer.

I parked in the grass on the side of the gas station and walked up to Sodapop. "Hey." I said with a smile.

"Oh. Isn't this a surprise!" Sodapop said with a grin.

"Hey, Steve." I said with a small smile.

"What's up, Heidi? How have you been recently? Sorry about you and Dal."

"I've been doing better. Soda, you didn't mention anything about last night?"

"Not yet. Haven't gotten into the conversation. Needed the right time."

"What happened last night? Ponyboy said Dallas was being a dick all night, but was there something else?" Steve asked.

Hearing that Dallas was miserable and I had something to do with it made me grin.

Soda spoke up. "I asked her to be my girlfriend."
