“I don’t know; it just slipped out,” she said, genuinely confused about why she had said that. Seher nodded.
“Hmmm, it happens. They say that when something slips from our mouth without us knowing, it’s because the detail is connected to someone we have a destiny link with,” Seher said, sitting on the bed with one leg crossed over the other, while Ayat stood there, puzzled.
“I don’t believe in such myths, and you shouldn’t either,” Ayat suggested, and Seher giggled.
“Yeah, I don’t really believe it either; I was just telling you!” she said, still chuckling, and Ayat smiled and nodded in response..

It was evening when Ayat got up from her prayer mat and glanced at the clock, which read 6:30 PM. She felt worried because it had been hours since Ashar had left the house, and he hadn’t called her. After putting the prayer mat in its place, she picked up her mobile phone to call him. She dialed his number, saved under the name "Ashar." However, he didn’t pick up. She tried calling again, and after two rings, he finally answered.
"Hello, Ashar?" she said, but heard no response from the other end. Instead, a female voice spoke up.
"Hello, Ayat! This is Kinza speaking!" she said, leaving Ayat confused.
"Can I ask why Ashar's phone is with you?" Ayat questioned, trying not to sound rude, as she was not fond of the situation.
"Don't worry! We're just at Ashar's friend Ahmed's house. He just had a baby boy, and we came to visit them," Kinza replied in a neutral tone. Ayat nodded, even though Kinza couldn't see her.
"Can you call Ashar? I want to talk to him," Ayat expressed her thoughts. There was a moment of silence, and then Ashar's voice came through.
"What happened, Ayat?" His voice brought her some relief.
"When will you come home?" she asked. After a brief pause, he replied.
"Actually, Ayat, I will be kind of late. Ahmed is insisting that I stay for dinner, so just eat dinner and go to bed. I’ll come home late, okay?" His sweet voice reassured her, and she simply hummed in response.
"Hmm, okay!" As soon as she said that, he hung up. She sat on the bed, feeling bored and restless.
"But why is Kinza with him?" she wondered aloud, then went downstairs to Nayla's bedroom. She knocked on the door, and Nayla came out, smiling at her.
"Come in, Ayat!" Nayla invited. However, when she saw Saleem lying inside, Ayat held Nayla's hand and gently declined.
"I want to talk to you, but not here!" she said. Nayla nodded and followed her to the lounge.
They both sat on the sofa, and Nayla looked at her with concern. "What happened? You look worried," she asked, sensing Ayat's unease.
"Actually, I wanted to talk about Ashar and Kinza," Ayat admitted, her gaze directed at the ground. Nayla grew anxious.
"I've been thinking the same thing! Why are Ashar and Kinza so close? He's so open with her, and you said he’s only with you?" Ayat expressed her thoughts honestly. Nayla took her hands in hers.
"There’s nothing to worry about, Ayat. Kinza and her family are very close to us because we share a business connection. They live in London, but Kinza often comes here to stay with us. Ashar and Kinza have been friends since childhood, so he is more comfortable with her than with anyone else. Don't worry; I'll make him understand," Nayla reassured her, and Ayat nodded.
