Chapter 7

"Long story, Maloi." so the name's Maloi huh?

"I have all day Nicolette, I took a day off to spend the whole day with you on your birthday. And this is all I see? A bruised cheek? I'm so gonna tell Auntie about this." my eyes widened upon hearing what she said, it's Colet's birthday today! Oh my gosh!

"What day is today? Are you sure it's my birthday?"
Colet asked dumbfounded.

This annoying creature, how can she forget her natal day?!

"Do you want me to slap the calendar on your face?" Maloi snapped, she's kinda scary.

"No, I was just really busy these past few days. Oh, I'm getting older." Colet said and groaned. She's really unbelievable! I was about to join their conversation when a phone rings, turns out it was Maloi's.

"What?... I took a day off, so please... What?! I'm so gonna kill you all. Fine! Bye." she said and heave a deep sigh. Can't she construct a sentence without the word kill?

"They needed me there, I'll be back for dinner.
Don't you dare leave your apartment, got it?"

"Roger that." Colet said with a little nod. Maloi turned around and stopped in front of me. I gulp and look at her.

"Nice to meet you, Jhoanna. I'm sorry for my attitude earlier." she said and offer for a handshake. I grabbed her hand and give her a smile.

"It's fine."

"I'm Maloi, and I need to go. Bye!" she said and ran towards the door. She warned Colet again before fully disappearing behind the door. Of course, her warnings were filled with the word kill again. Geez.

Silence enveloped us, I was just staring at the door when I felt a presence beside me. I looked up and saw Colet. Why is she this annoying?

"I'm hungry." was the one that came out of her mouth. I stopped a smile and shook my head.

"How can you forget your birthday?"

"I... don't know. It's the first time, really." she shrugged.

"Is that even possible?"

"Yeah, the proof is right in front of you," she said and smiled a little. I rolled my eyes at her.

"Can I explore your kitchen?" I asked instead, I'm hungry as well.

"Sure. I'll just fix my bed and maybe freshen up a little," she said and we parted ways. Me to her kitchen and Colet, to her room.

"I made my way to her kitchen and started rummaging through her stocks, I decided to make Sinigang for our lunch. I don't know but, after what happened last night, I felt more comfortable around Colet that I even cooked for our lunch.

"She doesn't have any ingredients for baking," I mumbled more to myself and decided to make a pancake, she has a ready-mixed pack of it, I know that pancake is for breakfast but it's her birthday so this will serve as her cake, as for now.

"You cook?" I craned my neck to see a fresh Colet, she's drying her hair with a towel.

"Yep." I said popping the letter 'p' and going back to my pancake. I flipped it over and waited for another minute to serve it.

"Woah? Sinigang?! Amazing!" she said like a kid so I looked at her, my back leaning against the cold granite of her kitchen counter.

"Yup, wait up a little, I'm still doing the pancake." "Pancake?" she asked confused. "It's already past one, just to remind you," she added while shaking her head.

"I'm wild aware Nicolette, tsk." I roll my eyes and place the pancake on the plate, it looks cute.

"Do you have a candle?" she didn't say anything and just stood up, walked towards me and stopped in front of me.
