Chapter Nine: Duplicatnation (Update)

DJ's expression softened as she looked at her little brother, now clearly upset. When did her baby brother grow up so much? It felt like just yesterday he was a toddler, shadowing her around the noodle shop, and now he was 16, dealing with his first crush.

"Listen, MK," DJ began, her tone more serious but still laced with affection. "As much as I love to joke around, you're still way too young to worry about this kind of stuff. Your voice still cracks like a chipmunk every other sentence."

"W-What? HEY!" MK protested, pouting.

DJ chuckled, shaking her head. 

"I'm just saying, wait until your balls drop before you start thinking about love and all that mushy stuff. Enjoy being a kid while you can. Trust me, one day everything will change, and you'll be forced to grow up faster than you'd like. Take it from me." DJ says, her tone sad as she looked down a bit to avoid too much eye contact. 

MK's expression turned thoughtful, realizing how much weight her words carried. He knew that DJ had grown up too fast, shouldering responsibilities she hadn't asked for. He couldn't help but feel a pang of sadness for her.

"Just enjoy yourself while you can, kiddo," DJ added, giving him a gentle smile.

MK nodded, finishing his food and placing the empty dish in the sink. 

"So enough about me, how was your day, DJ?" MK asks curiously.

"It was alright," DJ replied, leaning against the counter. "Got to see Tang get another beatdown for freeloading."

MK chuckled at that. "When is Mr. Tang actually going to start paying for his noodles?"

"Probably when Pigsy start flying," DJ joked as they headed upstairs toward their rooms. "Speaking of which those are almost always arguing. They act like an old married couple sometimes."

"I know, right?—Mei?!" MK's eyes widened as he entered his room, spotting Mei rummaging through his things with her usual mischievous grin.

"Get up, get up, get up! We are going OUT!" Mei declared, tossing MK a fresh shirt to change into.

DJ blinked in surprise as she looked at Mei. 

"How did you even get in here without me noticing?" DJ asks, with shock and a hint of curiosity.

Mei shrugged nonchalantly, pointing to the window. 

"Oh, that? I climbed in through the window." Mei said like it wasn't a big deal.

"But... it's on the second floor..." DJ began with a shocked yet impressed tone, only to be cut off by Mei's excitement.

"Don't worry about it! We're heading to the anti-gravity arcade!" Mei announced, practically bouncing with energy.

MK's face lit up. 

"Oh heck yeah!" MK exclaimed with happiness. 

DJ shook her head at this.

"Thanks, but no thanks. I'm staying in tonight. I've got work in the morning, and so do you, MK. We don't want Pigsy on our backs if we're too tired to function." DJ says, shivering just even thinking of the scolding she'll get if she's even a bit tired in the morning. 

MK's excitement deflated a bit, his shoulders slumping. 

"Aw, man..." MK says as he pouts like a kid.

Mei wasn't having any of it however as she went over to DJ and began to beg her.

"Oh, come on, DJ! Don't be such a party pooper! At least let MK come with me? I promise I'll have him back in an hour or two! Honest!" Mei says in a pleading tone.
