˗ˏˋ ★ ˎˊ˗ "Hey, Jon," Kat said as she walked up to Jonathan, who was attempting to shoot cans off of tree stumps. "How's it going?"
He shot again, and missed. He put the gun down defeatedly. "Not great."
Kat held her hand out. "Can I try?"
Jonathan thought for a moment, then set the gun in the palm of her hand. "Just aim at the can then pull the trigger."
"Obviously."
She had never shot a gun before, but it couldn't be that hard, Right? Kat shut her left eye, only looking at the can in the middle. She pulled the trigger and the can flew off the stump. Kat looked to Jonathan with a shocked smile.
Jonathan returned the same smile. "How did you do that?"
Kat handed the gun back to him. "You just aim and pull the trigger."
He straightened his arms, repositioning the gun in his hands. "You're a great teacher." Jonathan pulled the trigger once, then missed. He shot at the same can almost five times and missed every single one.
"You're supposed to hit the cans, right?" a voice said from behind the two. It was Nancy, holding the baseball bat and a tote bag.
Kat could tell Jonathan was trying not to seem embarrassed. "You see the spaces between the cans? I was aiming for those."
The two kept talking and Kat couldn't help but realize how easily they talked to each other, how they both felt comfortable in telling the other things about themselves.
As it turned out, Nancy was an amazing shot too, knocking the can on the right clean off the stump.

˗ˏˋ ★ ˎˊ˗ As the three walked through the woods, Jonathan and Nancy were talking, and Kat was trailing behind.
She had assumed that they were just chatting, but a few minutes later, Jonathan stormed off, walking ahead of the girls.
