Trust is something to be earned ~Shima x reader

Everyone had left, it was just me and Rin now. I didn't want to leave him alone so we stood together in the rain as he stared at Shiros phone in front of his gravestone.

"Rin maybe it's time to-" I cut myself off as I watched him dial a number into the phone. What is he doing..?

He called the number and ringing came from nowhere as we both looked around and realized we were surrounded by people in black trench coats. Okay what's really going on here, why do weird things keep happening?!

"Pleasured to meet the two of you" A voice repeated from behind us as a jingle of a keychain followed. Why does that voice sound so familiar? It can't be...

"I am Mephisto Pheles, Preceptor of the Japan Branch of the Knights of the True Cross." Mephisto said with a bow, raising his ice-cream cane in the air behind his back. He had pointed ears, dark eyes, and dark purple hair or was it blue? Never mind that, he wore a white top hat with a pink and purple rope around hit. He had a white jacket with red and white buttons, pink tie with white polka dots, purple gloves, a white cape with purple on the inside, poofy white shorts followed by red and pink stripped tights, and brown mid calf boots.(His outfit is so much to describe 😭)

Well he looks...interesting? Definitely not what I was expecting.

"I was a friend of Father Fujimotos and Ms. Diaz's parents. Please allow me to extend my deepest condolences to both of you." He finished, still in his bowing position as Rin turned to me in shock. Shit, with everything that had happened I hadn't really gotten around to telling them about my parents.

"My parents died while trying to exercise demons from a village, Satan killed them...I forgot to tell everyone with everything else that happened..." I said avoiding Rin's eye contact.

"Y/n I'm so sor-"

"So I'm guessing you guys are all exorcist too?" I questioned cutting Rin off, trying to get him to drop the topic. We could talk about it later but now isn't the right time.

"Yes and we know all about you, Rin Okumura." Mephisto said as he stepped towards us. "It seems Father Fujimoto intended to raise you as a human," he came to a stop before continuing shaking "but against his wishes, you instead awoke to your true nature. Having the sun of Satan at large in Assiah puts mankind in the worst kind of jeopardy." He said extending his arms out. "As such, we are compelled to eliminate you, in the name of the Vatican and I came offering my good news for Miss L/n." He said pointing towards us as I stepped in front of Rin, my hand hovering over the sword on my back.

"Hey I thought you were going to offer me protection!" Rin shouted from behind me causing Maphisto to smirk.

"I never let my personal feelings interfere with business." His sentence making me grip around the handle of my sword. "Slow down missy, two options remain for you Rin. Either be killed by us, or kill us and flee. Oh, wait, there's also the option of taking your own life," What is this sick creep on! "So that's three actually. Now then which do you prefer?" He finished with smile on his face.

"Let me join you guys." Rin spoke, stepping out from behind me. He wants to be an exorcist?

"Huh?!" Mephisto asked in shock as I turned to look at Rin in surprise.

"I don't care what you say. I don't care what you think. But I'm no son of Satan. I only have one dad, and that's Shiro Fujimoto!" He shouted at Mephisto. Rin... Shiro would be so proud. I looked at him as a small smile made its way to my face as my hand dropped to my side.

"I see... So you're saying you'd like to carry out Father Fujimotos dying wish... But please, listen to me for a moment. Just what do you plan to do as an exorcist?" Mephisto question as he pointed his gloved hand at Rin.

"Beat the shit out of Satan!" Rin shouted angrily with a scowl on his face. You won't be alone, I want nothing more I want than to see him in pain. Mephistos eyes widen as he burst out into laughter at Rin's statement.

"What the hells so funny." Rin deadpanned as the older man laughed.

"Funny? The son Satan, an exorcist. I mean Y/n is expected, but you?!." Mephisto stated before bursting into laughter again. " How brilliant!" He cackled. " I haven't laughed so hard in ages!"

" Hey I'm serious about this!" Rin shouted in frustration.

"How drill! Very well, then!" Mephisto stated, calming down from his laughter.

"W-wait...! Sir Pheles!" A man uttered from behind Mephisto with a shocked expression from his proclamation.

"Huh? You're okay with it?!" Rin exclaimed in shock. As I stared at the man in disbelief.

"This is an extra legal measure. However Master Rin." Master? "You have chosen to follow a thorny path. You may very well regret not having chosen to die today the fate that awaits you will be that painful and agonizing." Mephisto stated with a wide smile.

"I don't give a damn. I'm not a human or a demon anymore... Don't you see, my only choice is to move on!" Rin shouted at the man. "I'm gonna become an exorcist!" He declared with determination.

"Well then, Miss L/n. Since you hung up before I could deliver the good news, if you're interested in continuing your family's legacy then you've been offered a full ride to attend True Cross academy to become an exorcist!" Mephisto said looking at you expectedly.

"My parents and brother did everything they could to prepare me to become an exorcist and I let them down a long time ago... But that won't happen again. I'm becoming an exorcist and I'll become better than they ever thought I'd be." I said with the same determination Rin had.

Sorry this one is a little shorter but who's ready to start True Crossss, also I'll be including a picture of the sword later on since it hast been officially used yet but you'll get a sneak peal of it in the next chapter :) Also I think I'll be posting every other day from now on
