The Plan, Part One.

Start from the beginning

This is my last chance to get her back.

I have a plan.

And Gabe is part of that plan.

"What can I do to make you help me? I'll do anything." I plead, feeling my chest tighten.

Gabe stops, and turns his head to look at me. "Anything?"

"Anything."

He grinds his teeth together for a minute, before looking ahead at something. "Okay, fine. I'll help. But only on one condition."

I look over at what he's looking at, and I see, Julia, a girl I tried to ask out a couple months ago. "Um, okay."

He looks back at me. "I need you to talk to Julia for me, and see if she likes me."

My eyebrows shoot up.

He likes Julia?

"Julia? I always thought..."

"What?" He smirks. "That I liked Sophie?"

I stop walking, which causes him to stop too. "Yeah, I mean, man, you're always hanging around her. and we both know that she's not ugly. It's either that, or you're gay."

He starts laughing loudly, making us attract some attention from people around us. "Oh, yeah... You're funny." He lets out another loud laugh, and sucks in a deep breath. "Only you know this, okay? I used to like her when we were younger. But, I decided that I wasn't going to go after her, because we were probably better off friends instead of lovers. There are some people who were meant to be lovers, and some who were meant to be friends. Her and I are friends, and that is all that's going to happen."

Now I feel foolish for throwing that fit. If I didn't do that, none of this would probably be happening right now.

My life sucks.

"Man, Gabe... I'm sorry." I sigh and run my hair through my now longer hair. "I just assumed.."

"It's okay." He laughs. "So, do we have a deal?" He asks, referring to what we were talking about earlier.

I scrunch up my nose.

Here's the thing... Julia doesn't like me that well... Okay, she hates me thanks to, Sophie. And I don't know if she would either ignore me, or punch me if I tried to talk to her.

"Julia hates me." I tell him.

"Then we don't have a deal." His lips roll up into a smirk, and he starts walking away from me.

"Wait, wait!" He stops walking. "Fine," I sigh. "I'll do it."

Sophie better love me after this.

"What do you want, Jerk?"

I wince.

Not a good start.

"Julia, I haven't even said anything to you."

She glances at me out of the corner of her eye. "I don't care. I don't want you talking to me." She flips her hair, and looks at her notebook on her desk.

How can Gabe like her?

How did I like her?

"I'm sorry for what I did to you earlier." I lower my voice when the teacher walks in. "I was wrong."

"Sure. Whatever."

My fists clench. This girl is getting on my nerves.

"Class, today, we're studying on page two-fifty-two. Go ahead and take out your history books." The teacher tells us, but meanwhile, I'm pulling out a piece of paper from my notebook, to write her a note.

'Hey, I know you hate me, and I was horrible to you, but I need to ask you a question.' I write, and then slide it onto her desk.

As soon as it lands, she pushes it onto the floor, and continues staring at the teacher.

So I write her another one...And she pushes it off again.

One more time, and I'm done. Forget it. I'll just try to get the tapes on my own.

The tapes. That's what I need Gabe to get. What I'm planning on doing, is set up a treasure hunt for Soph. She's smart, and I know she likes smart things, so hopefully, she'll love it.

I have everything.. But the tape. The video tape from where Ian, Chris, Mike, and I threw Sophie into the pool in the Gym. They video tape everything in there, but they never watch. I don't even know why they have to have a video camera, but it's working out for me now.

But, they won't let me in the security room... Only Gabe, because he was once a part of the security crew last year, when one of the members were sick.

He still has clearance. And that's what I need.

I write the same words again, fold it the same way, and throw it her desk, the same exact way.

But, this time, she sighs and opens the paper.

I don't watch her read it... That would seem too creepy. So, I look ahead at the teacher, who's walking around the other side of the room, helping out some of the dumber students out.

Sorry, not dumber... 'Mentally challenged'. I've also had to learn that.. To stop calling people names.

Julia slides the paper over onto my desk without looking at me, and I open it up,

'Fine, I give up. What do you want?" Her neat handwriting reads,

I smile, and almost yell, 'Yes!', but I stop myself.

'Okay, I need to know if you like, Gabe.' My hand writing isn't as neat as hers, but I don't really care, and I slide it over to her.

Gabe is lucky that I sit next to her in this class. This is actually the class where I first noticed her.

She never replies to that note... And I know she's read it, because I saw her open it through the corner of my eye.

Well Gabe, I tried.

After the bell rings, she tries to rush out of there, but I grab her upper arm. "Hey, you never responded."

She rips her arm out of my grip, reminding me of Sophie, and she whispers. "Why do you want to know? And who wants to know?"

I sit down on the desk. "Because, I was asked to ask you, and I want to know. So.. do you?"

She bites her bottom lip, and I don't even have to ask anymore.. She's already shown me with her expression.

"I don't know. I think he's sweet, but I think he likes Sophie."

I smile, and shake my head. "Trust me, he doesn't like her. I know for sure."

"Really?" Her face lights up.

"Yeah." I laugh, and stand up. "I would go after him if I were you, 'cause he likes you too."

She blushes slightly, and I take this as my hint to leave, but I stop when she calls my name. "Zack, wait. I'm sorry for acting that way... I shouldn't have treated you like that."

"It's fine." I tell her while smiling, and then I walk away from her to find Gabe.

Hopefully all this will work.

I don't know what to do if it doesn't.
