"No one wants to sit next to me!?" Mark said starting the car.

"Sorry, man. We don't like you." One of Mark's friend jokingly said.

"Looks like I'm in charge of the music then." Mark said pulling out of the driveway.

They were about ten minutes into the car ride to nowhere and it was just silence between Debby and Josh as the music Mark picked flowed between them.

"So, how do you know Mark?" Debby asked breaking the silence between them.

"My best friend introduced me to him and now we're friends and now we're living together." Josh explained.

"Oh really? That's really cool. Are you in college?"

Josh laughed, "I was but then I decided to drop out to pursue music. I play drums."

"Are you in a band?"

"I am actually with my best friend. We've only performed two gigs so far, but it's something we really love to do."

"Maybe I'll come to one of your concerts one day." Debby said smiling a little.

"May-maybe you will."

"I got you!" Mark said from the front.

"What do you mean?" Josh said.

Mark put a CD into the CD player of the car and "Trees" started playing.

"Oh, this is my band. This song is my favorite one right now, actually. It's called Trees."

She's going to hate it.

No one will like your music.

Shut up. Josh thought as he took a deep breath.

I know where you stand
Silent in the trees
And that's where I am
Silent in the trees.
Why won't you speak
Where I happen to be?
Silent in the trees
Standing cowardly.

I can feel your breath.
I can feel my death.
I want to know you.
I want to see.
I want to say hello.

Hello. Hello. Hello.

Mark turned it down a little.

"That's a really cool, unique sound. I love it." Debby said.

"Thank you, that means a lot." Josh said smiling.

"What's the band's name?"

"We're Twenty One Pilots." Josh said looking over to Debby.

She was staring right at Josh already and she looked into his eyes and said "Cool."

Mark pulled over into a lonesome meadow and the group laid there watching the stars and fireworks in the distance. Josh and Debby really hit it off there and talked quite a lot during it all. Josh really liked Debby, there was something about her. She was different than any other girl he's been with. His anxiety didn't take over him when talking to her. He also liked that with Debby, it seemed the voice in his head was almost non-existent. He wanted to see where the friendship would take them, and he was hoping she would too because he was happy around her, and he hoped she was too.

Tyler got to Jenna's apartment at  eight-fifty. He had ten minutes to wait and Blurryface took those ten minutes well.

She's not going to like what you planned.

She doesn't even liKE yoU.

Tyler was dreading the wait.

Why don't you just drive away?

It's probably now even the right house.

She didn't want you to actually take her out.

Then why did say yes? Tyler thought.

She felt bad for you.

It's all an acT, TYLER.

When will you realize that-

Tyler's phone buzzed.

[Alert] Pick Jenna up at 9 PM

It was his phone reminder. Good thing he set that.

Tyler got out of the car and went up the door. He took a deep breath and rang the doorbell. A couple seconds later, and Jenna opened the door.

"Hey Tyler!" She said stepping out and closing the door.

"Hey Jenna, you ready?" Tyler asked.

"Ready as I'll ever be!" She said smiling.

"Alright, then let's go!" Tyler said.

They then got into Tyler's car (Tyler opening Jenna's door first) and drove off.

"Sorry, my car doesn't have a radio. It got stolen when I was in high school."

"That's terrible, but it's fine! So what are we doing this evening?"

"Can I say it's a surprise?" Tyler said looking over to her.

"Well, if you must. Then a surprise it is." She smiled at him.

Tyler looked back to the road, "Okay, then it's a surprise."

They drove a good forty minutes until finally stopping at the side of a hill.

"I hope you don't mind, we have to walk for a couple minutes to get there." Tyler explained.

"That's fine, Tyler." Jenna said getting out of the car and Tyler followed.

Tyler got a basket from the back of his car and locked his car.

"Oh, a picnic at this time of day?" Jenna asked.

"You don't even know the best part. Come on, let's start walking." Tyler said smiling at her.

Jenna and Tyler walked side-by-side up a little path on the hill. Their hands were brushing against each other, but neither side was making a move.

Just do it, Tyler.

He took a deep breath and reached down and grabbed Jenna's hand in his. A huge wind of relief flew over Tyler, as Jenna held Tyler's hand back. They had walked a good ten minutes when they finally stopped. They were at the top of the hill and were overseeing all of the city.

"Here we are." Tyler said.

"Wow." Jenna said taking it all in.

Tyler looked over at Jenna and was admiring how she was looking at the city.

"It's beautiful." Jenna said.

"I know." Tyler said.

Tyler then proceeded to set up the blanket and the little picnic. They ate and talked and had a great time together. They sat there together, Jenna in Tyler's arms, counting down to the new year.

"5...4...3...2...1!" They said together and they cheered.

Jenna then turned to Tyler and they kissed. With the fireworks in the city behind them as a backdrop, it was about as perfect as a first date could get.

"Happy New Years, Tyler."

"Happy New Years, Jenna."

The two then got up and headed for the car.

About half way through the drive back, Tyler noticed Jenna fell asleep. There were potholes all along the road that Jenna complained about on the way there, so Tyler tried to avoid them for her. If only his taxes were used so that the government filled the holes with more cement, wait, it's asphalt. He didn't care though, as long as Jenna slept fine and as long as Blurryface didn't intervene, he was genuinely happy right now and he hadn't felt this kind of happy in a long time.
