He’d already added an urgent kick to his voice when Josh agreed to the allegations of “storming off” that was an exaggerated way to put it, but words got out fast and its like playing the whisper game, you whisper something but something entirely different came back to you.
Josh had to be on his best behaviour until his inauguration but he’d be damn right lying if he said he could focus on any other subject besides Brie, he was barely keeping composure. He saw how she looked and he knew he should’ve offered to eat brunch with her. He could try to hold off on any serious conversations and just watch her eat or crack iconic stand up comedy jokes.
Damn! She wore jeans and that lipstick shade wasn’t the regular nude, the one she had on was a brighter, deeper shade of blush pink and Josh wanted his shirt smeared with it.
He couldn't control himself around her. And it wasn’t distance that made his heart and dick grow fonder.
He loved her like the first time and more.
Starting up his car, his mind did a quick run through of where she could be. Meg was probably at work and so was Anna. She maybe waiting at the hospital cafeteria or the outdoor sit out rather than being alone.
He revved the engine and drove to Anna’s workplace. He decided he would have a late lunch with his wife and maybe successfully drive her home-their home.
Anna was busy.
So Brie waited at the outdoor sitting area. The cool breeze passed with quiet ease. Brie found a well shaded spot and settled in, the area was around the center. The hospital was on point with the whole nature heals agenda.
It was amazing, tranquil.
A few people strolled around the place that looked like a mini park, family walking with their less advantaged members, a few wheel chairs with their IV stands, and a few persons taking a walk alone or sitting alone like Brie.
The pathway right ahead from where brie sat was lined with large shady trees, it smelt like park and peace. She liked it.
She was at ease, nearly tasteless coffee in hand .Maybe it was too much water.
The coffee was bland and lukewarm.
Her fault though, she wasn’t patient enough to wait for the water to heat up.After setting down her paper cup coffee, she stretched her legs out, stretching out her hands in front of her.
She smiled, satisfied she got the shoulder pop. After her lack of control of tear glands mishap at the cafe, the tranquil sitting area of Greenville hospital was all she needed before plunging into another episode of hurt.
Her smile slipped and she dug out her phone from her bag, flicked on the screen, the phone had been in her bag since after the call with Meg.
Joshy texted her over thirty minutes ago.
His name on her screen prompted her to sit up, the sweet air from before almost went down the wrong pipe. She tapped on the notification.Where are you Brielle?
Baby pick up your call.
Her eyes flew open. Had she silenced her phone.
She sighed.
She recalled putting it on silent mode right before she entered Linda’s office. Her phone was on the table, hence she had seen Meg’s caller ID flash, but after that, she stuffed the device back into her bag.
Shoot!
Her Joshy had called and she didn’t know.
Her hand hovered over his name, she wanted to call but decided against it.
He could be busy or in a meeting.
She pushed her phone into her bag and was about to resume her tranquil moments when a tiny voiced nurse interrupted. She turned her head to find who had the tiny voice. Her eyes met a blonde round faced lady with a smile so warm she had to crack one herself.
“Doctor Anna is ready for you.” she said and walked away.
“I'll be right there.” she piped up already slinging my bag on, the slight shudder of her body didn’t go unnoticed.
How did one mentally prepare for something that really never improves?
She walked numbly into the building.
Brie knew there wasn’t a chance of a pregnancy since she hasn’t had sex with Josh yet her heart hoped for some sort of miracle, that a little munchkin would be hiding somewhere in her belly.Hopefully, the medications she'd been so religiously taking had fixed her cervix.
Was it any better now?
Could she carry a little angel now?
Walking on the white corridors, her steps slowed down, a sudden reluctance added to her strides, she felt shivers run down her spine, her heart ached. She needed him. Josh, her husband.
She wished Josh would suddenly show up and hold her and tell her they’d get through this with that same look he had in his eyes at Linda’s office.
But he didn’t know.
She didn’t tell him.
Didn’t communicate it and she was wrong.
And she had found out how wrong she was during the first therapy session
