Chapter 18: Subjective

Start from the beginning

Lin Xingzhu noticed her anxiety and reassured her, "You don't need to be nervous. Just be yourself; my dad actually appreciates people like you the most."

Talented, hardworking, and coming from humble beginnings yet resilient, she had managed to enter a prestigious school without the backing that Lin Xingzhu needed from her father.

Lin Xingzhu checked the time; they had agreed to have lunch together and discuss a few things. There were still twenty minutes before the afternoon work hours.

Seeing that Bai Xiying was nearly done eating, Lin Xingzhu gathered her bag and stood up. "Let's go; I'll give you a ride back."

Once they reached the parking area downstairs, a white car suddenly stopped in front of them.

The window slowly rolled down, revealing a familiar face to both of them.

Mu Muqing looked at the two walking side by side, a fleeting look of something unusual in her eyes, and said with a neutral expression, "Xiying, let me give you a ride home."

"President Lin is busy," Mu Muqing glanced at Lin Xingzhu, "It's just right that Xiying works with me, so it wouldn't be necessary for President Lin to specially drive her."

Lin Xingzhu said nothing, glancing sideways at Bai Xiying.

Noticing her look of discomfort, she smiled slightly and stepped back. "Then I'll bother you, President Mu."

Bai Xiying then sat in the back seat.

Lin Xingzhu noticed she hadn't taken the front passenger seat. Her brows raised slightly as she watched the car gradually drive away, the last digits of the yellow license plate slowly disappearing from view.

Why did she feel like she had seen this car somewhere before?

Lin Xingzhu pondered for a moment and suddenly remembered the white car that had flashed by when she saw Bai Xiying that day, parked by the roadside.

It seemed to be Mu Muqing's car.

Given the other car's speed, if Lin Xingzhu hadn't taken Bai Xiying away, they would have passed by there in half a minute, easily catching sight of Bai Xiying walking slowly by the roadside.

A look of confusion gathered in Lin Xingzhu's eyes. So, Bai Xiying had jumped into her car without hesitation because she saw Mu Muqing right behind?

Did that mean, compared to Mu Muqing, Bai Xiying preferred her company?

Lin Xingzhu gripped the steering wheel, slowly coming to this conclusion.

But then, a question arose: what had been going on with Bai Xiying's voice days ago?

In the days since, Lin Xingzhu had been observing quietly, and Bai Xiying had never again spoken in that enticing and sticky manner; it was as if that midday allure had been a fleeting illusion.

But Lin Xingzhu, who knew the original plot, could assert that it wasn't.
