50: The Sportsfestival!

Start from the beginning

"Usually people become sidekicks though," Kaminari said, "It's important to intern somewhere—"

Aizawa came in, cutting all conversation short.

"Here's how many offers you all got for the internships."

A screen showed up and I flinched.
First: Hitoshi had the most offers? Awesome!
Second: Todoroki was second after Hitoshi, which was surprising since he only got third place.
Third: Bakugo, he got first place in the sports festival, but he had made a scene...

I wasn't anywhere near them in number.
What made me flinch was that I had a few hundred offers anyway.

Hitoshi send me a look and I realised I was growling.
I looked away, resorting to a simple sigh instead.

I guess I got what I wanted... I didn't get my face shown on tv...

But I didn't get to sit back for the internships!!
All that time I could have used for vigilante stuff, waisted!!

What a shame!

Hitoshi was grinning once we got home.

"I don't know how I'm gonna sort them... how will I even choose?"

I shrugged. "Ask dad and pap, not me."

"Yeah, but... I can't believe it! People actually want me to intern with them. My quirk is villainous!"

"Yeah yeah, I get it." I felt my ears and tail itching to get out.

"You look down."

"I want coffee."

"Hah, you're banned."

Another growl left me.

"What?" Hitoshi gave me a look, "Can't you be happy for me?"

Shaking my head at him, I then nodded and then just pulled up my hood.
"I don't mean to be stupid, I'm just annoyed. I'm happy for you, don't get that wrong."

Putting his hands in his pockets, Hitoshi sighed. "I guess that will do. Let's get home."

He wasn't happy... had I ruined it? What do I say? The sun was warm, so distracting...
"So we can eat food to celebrate?" I tried.

"Exactly!" Hitoshi grinned again, "See? It's not that hard to be happy!"

If he only knew the amount of thought and anxiety I had put in that sentence just now...

All attention was on Hitoshi, which I guess was only fair.

I went to my room, not feeling very invited. Sitting down, I went to make the homework we got and made a copy of my essay for Hitoshi. That should count as a present, right?

I put a small decoration on it and walked to his room, leaving it on his desk.
Honestly, it felt like I was giving him the wrong thing...

No— stop that thought!!
No dead animals as presents, we're not repeating that— ever again!!
So embarrassing...!

"Hey," Nemuri suddenly knocked on my door. I hid my cloak and mask, closing my window and opening the door for her.

"Hey."

"You want to join us?"

I blinked twice.
"Do I have to? I'm not feeling so well..."

"Oh hunny—" Midnight put a hand on my shoulder, "I'm not gonna force you. Should I tell them a lie?"

"Tell them I've gone out," I shrugged.

Nemuri squinted her eyes at me then. She didn't like the idea of that.
"When will you be back?"

I licked my lips.
"Tomorrow."

"That's too late."

"Three AM."

"Shota needs his sleep."

"Argh— fine, twelve o'clock, sharp."

"That sounds better. And don't make me call up Hawks again."

"You sound like dad," I rolled my eyes and closed my door. I grabbed my stuff and opened the window.
Throwing my legs out the window, I paused, sitting on the sill for a second.
The familiar breeze hit my hands, my mask hiding my face.

The sudden security of the familiarity of escaping...
Why didn't I feel safe at home?

What was this anxiety?

...maybe I should trust that.

I couldn't trust anyone but myself.
I had learned this, right?

And after all, the world is on copium. Mom told me that.
Everyone's fucked up, who should I allow to blame me for doing weird shit?
What's stopping Mic and Zawa from...from... stuff.

I couldn't even imagine them hitting me.
But it was still a possibility and I hated that, so much.

"There you are." Shigaraki turned to give me a glance.

"Ready for my first job... I guess? How's it gonna work?"

Kurogiri offered me a seat before we talked about the details of my 'job'.

Someone once told me not to earn money in shady ways.

Hehe, he never said anything about earning quirks.

And honestly, Shigaraki and me made a plan. I analysed some papers and predicted where the hero killer would go next.

"Leave the rest to us," Shigaraki said.

I nodded and left. Already being an hour after three, I decided to walk my patrol route a bit.
It felt nice to walk the familiar streets as the sun waited for me.
Before I knew it, the sun came up, throwing its warm light at me.

I came home, put a blanket over Aizawa's shoulders and cleaned up the coffee he had spilled as he probably fell asleep. What an idiot, falling asleep at the kitchen table.

After a shower I put on my uniform and smiled.
"I could get used to this."

I was so happy, I definitely could!
I just had to get through the school day!
