"I didn't you see my text?" she asked, I leaned back in my chair, "You did but it's not enough. A text doesn't truly convey how you feel, I want to hear how you feel, Violet, so tell me again." I almost sounded desperate.

She let out a sigh, " I am okay, I'm good and I am fine, is that enough?" I could tell she was amused, but I was now relieved, I heard her say it, she was okay, she was good, and she was fine.

"Yes, it is. I'll return back to work now, have a great rest of your day." I smiled to myself.

"You really called because you wanted to hear if I was okay?" I'm sure she was perplexed and honestly so was I. This level of protectiveness over someone was new, and the fact that she was someone I barely knew baffled me, but for some unbeknownst reason it felt natural to feel the way I did.

"Yes, now that I know, I'll let you get on with your day," I hung up before she could respond, I knew it was rude, but I had to. I'm most likely to find myself tangled in her web if I keep getting closer, I needed to stay away, as far away from her as possible. I will talk to her when necessary and when we get married, I will keep my distance until it is over, that way when she leaves it won't hurt or leave scars, it would be like she was never there to begin with.

My phone rang, and my heart raced thinking it was Violet calling to tell me how rude it was to just hang up on her, but to my disappointment, it wasn't her instead it was my father. I let out a sigh and answered the call, "Father?" my tone cold; I was still indignant about the decision he made to marry me off, he didn't even talk to me about it. At least he could've warned me.

"Callum, I'm sure you have seen the new article that has surfaced about you." he started, and I rolled my eyes, so that's how he wants to start the phone call? "Is that why you have called, because you saw a hot new piece of gossip, come on dad. Here I was thinking gossip articles were beneath you, what has become of you father?" I scorned, my father has never entertained gossip articles, that was more of my mother's thing, I'm sure she was the one who showed him. I had nothing against them, I do read a one or two now and again. It was entirely amusing how ninety percent of them were based on speculation.

"Pettiness, is a very ill trait for a Knight, it's unbecoming of one," he retorted, and I outed a humorless chuckle, "And marrying your son against his will is?" I replied in a snarky tone. He can't be one to talk about what is and what isn't becoming of a Knight after what he did. Knights don't betray each other, and he betrayed me.

"For fucks sake, quit acting like a child," he spat, and I rolled my eyes, "How can I when you are treating me like one; making a decision on my behalf like I'm incapable, is treating me like a child, so don't be mad when I act accordingly." I retorted.

"You knew that I swore off marriage, and why I did it, yet you couldn't let it lie. Why did you do this? what could you possibly get from this?!" I clenched my jaw, it infuriated me.

"Because you can't live your life like this, yes, what happened to you was cruel and you have every reason to be mad, but what you won't do is miss out on something beautiful because of one despicable person." he sighed.

"It was my decision to make, and you took it from me, you had no right. So what if I didn't love again? if you feared for our bloodline, I would've married someone who would bare an heir to continue the legacy, at least I would've chosen my partner." I stated bitterly.

"I don't want that for you!" his snapped.

"Well, we are way over the years where you made decisions of what you want for me, now I get to make the decisions of what I want for me!" but he took that from me, "Why did you call dad? if you simply called because of some gossip, then I don't have time for it." I stated ready to end the phone call.

"Fine, I have something to discuss with you and Violet, come by tomorrow evening, we need to get started with the proceedings." he said.

"I'll be there." I responded. "Good," he hung up and I let out a bitter sigh. Whatever he has to say won't change much, unless he wanted to call this absurdity off, maybe he has come to his senses and realised how ludicrous this was, but then again Ford Knight never made rash decisions, it's doubtful he would want to call this engagement off.

There was a knock on my door, I sat up before I granted access and Cadence walked in, "Sir, your 12pm meeting is here, boardroom 4." She said, I nodded my head and got up from my chair. "Let's go." I said as I walked past her.

I walked in and found my team seated as well as the client, Lilian Underwood, she was the CEO of Underwood winery. Now and again, she liked to make us give her reasons why she should remain our client. She has been in business with Knight Marketing since day one, though our work has never disappointed her, she liked to keep us on our toes, something I appreciated. KM was unmatched but with that still said; clients like the Underwoods are what keep us humble, it always reminds us that you can be the best but if you don't have your clients' best interest you're bound to collapse, our clients are the backbone of the company.

"Ms Underwood." We shook hands, "Always so formal," she joked before she reclaimed her seat, "Impress me once more, Callum Knight." she smiled, and impress we did. It gets easier if you knew your client, what their business stood for, their values as well as their intended consumer.

We wrapped up the meeting, "Your thoughts?" I could easily see she was impressed; our aim is to please and surpass expectations, which we have done, time and time again without fail.

"I love it, at this point you're just showing off." she smirked getting up, "Maybe a little." I smiled and we both chuckled, "Always a pleasure doing business with you," she said collecting her stuff.

"Pleasure is ours, let me walk you out." I offered, and I let her walk out first with our assistants not far behind, " I was a bit disappointed to see that you are seeing someone, I was hoping to introduce you to my niece. She is going to be taking over the business soon." she said as I pressed the elevator and waited.

"I'm sorry to disappoint, but you can introduce me to your niece, strictly for business purposes. If she is going to be taking over, we need to meet at some point." I gave her a polite smile, I don't really take her trying to set me up with her niece to heart, though unprofessional but she meant well.

"I'll be sure to bring her next time, or maybe you can come to my birthday soiree this coming weekend. I'll be sure to introduce the two of you and please do bring the lovely lady from the article." she pulled out a fancy envelope from her purse and hands it to me, "It is a formal event." she smile as I took her invitation.

"Thank you, I'll hear what she has to say," the elevator doors opened, and she got in, her assistant speeding in behind her, "Perfect." she gave me a final smile before the doors closed. I walked to my office, and Cadence returned by her desk. I looked at the invite, and thought about Violet, would she come with me if I ask her? I guess I'll have to ask her and find out.
