Chapter 36: The Final Stand

---

The air was thick with anticipation. The time had come for the final battle, the one that would determine the fate of their world. The Harbingers, relentless and driven by their own twisted vision of power, were preparing to strike once more. Cassandra and her allies knew they had no choice but to face them head-on. There would be no retreat, no second chances. This was their final stand.

In the Mikaelson compound, the atmosphere was charged with tension, but also with determination. Their allies had gathered, families and friends united under the same cause, each one ready to make the ultimate sacrifice if it meant protecting the future. But for Cassandra, the weight of the battle was heavier than ever. With her pregnancy progressing, every choice, every battle, felt like it carried the potential to change everything for the child she carried, and the future she had fought so hard to protect.

---

The night before the battle, Cassandra stood alone in front of a large mirror, her fingers lightly grazing her stomach. The reality of her pregnancy had never felt so real. Klaus and Kol stood nearby, watching her with concern. Their love for her was undeniable, but so was the fear that came with the uncertainty of what was to come. They both knew that protecting Cassandra wasn’t just about saving her—it was about protecting the family they had already lost and the one they were about to create.

"You look beautiful," Klaus whispered, his voice low and filled with adoration.

Cassandra met his gaze through the mirror, her eyes filled with doubt. "I feel anything but beautiful, Klaus. This child… I’m terrified for it. For all of us."

Kol stepped closer, his hand brushing hers in a tender gesture of support. "Fear is normal, Cass. But we will fight to ensure that the future we’ve dreamed of happens. Nothing will stop us. We’ve fought too long and hard for this."

Klaus walked up behind her, wrapping his arms around her waist. "You’re not alone in this, love. I promise you, we’ll protect you, we’ll protect our child, no matter what it takes."

Cassandra smiled softly, her heart swelling with love for both of them. "I know. And I trust you both."

Kol kissed her forehead, his touch lingering with warmth. "We’ll be right here. We’re not going anywhere."

Hope and Henrik, despite their young age, had already seen and experienced more than anyone should ever have to. Their memories of the future they had left behind had slowly returned in fragmented flashes. They could feel the weight of the mistakes they had made, and the future they had changed, but Hope still clung to the hope that this new path would lead to something better.

Sitting side by side on the edge of the balcony, Hope rested her head against Henrik’s shoulder. "I keep seeing flashes, Henrik. Of what we were supposed to become. What we could have been."

Henrik’s arm found its way around her, pulling her closer. "I know, Hope. I’ve seen them too. But we’re not bound to the future we left behind. We can still make it ours. We still have a choice."

Hope’s eyes softened, the fear in her gaze slowly melting away under Henrik’s steady resolve. "I don’t want to lose you. I don’t want to lose anyone."

Henrik’s grip tightened around her. "You won’t. We’ll fight together, like we always have. We’ll protect each other, protect our family."

Hope looked up at him, her face brightening with a small smile. "Together, then?"

"Always," Henrik replied firmly.

Luna and Elijah had always been an unyielding force. Together, they were unstoppable. But in the quiet moments, when the weight of the war seemed to subside, they found solace in each other’s arms. As the final battle loomed, they clung to these moments more than ever.
