"So are you telling me I'm 'The One' or something? Please say that's not what you're saying." I could not handle something like that. Even the fact that I am something is a little too much.
"Definitely not. There are more of you, six to be specific, nobody more special than the last. But if you ask me, all humans are very special."
"Oh thank god," I mutter. "From the way you're talking, you don't sound human. So what are you?" I'm seriously doubting any of this is true but what does it hurt find out what these crazies are all about.
"We're natural spirits but would you not want to be 'The One?' Because from what I've observed, most humans are self-centered and would love a title like that," Big Shirt says.
"Like you said, most. I'm not one for wanting stuff like that." I say quickly, shaking my hands. "But Kasie would like that with the kind of complex she has," I think of Kasie throwing her hands into the air and cheering about how she is one of a kind. "What's a natural spirit anyway?"
"Natural spirits are spirits that have lived in the Planes their whole lives, never actually a human in the first life. I know you said not to ask question but may I say, whom is Kasie? Is she that other woman you are with often?" Trench Coat asks.
"Wow you're one for formal talk but yeah, she is. Kasie is my girlfriend and actually, one of my only friends, besides Ryan I guess."
"So you share romantic relations with Kasie. And Ryan is your 'rough and ready' mother, as Catch referred to her as."
I frown at the rude adjective and Big Shirt visibly cringes when he says that. "Is that Catch?" I say, gesturing to her.
"Yes, her full name is Catch Twenty-Two but we refer to her as Catch."
"Doesn't catch twenty-two mean a bad situation? Like one with no good outcome? What's your name then?" I ask, a bit confused out by these names. Doesn't even seem like a good name a criminal would call themselves.
"Yes, it does actually. My name is Godspeed, and we already know yours."
"Why you know, I'm not gonna ask. You guys have some bizarre names."
"Well yes. When we entered the Fellowship, we had no names so they gave them to us and we had no knowledge of their meaning."
"Wait, rewind a bit there? Fellowship? There's more of you guys?"
"Yes, many more. But only six Others, and soon seven if you choose to join."
"I can't believe you expect me to join you and your weird cult." I shake my head. Why I haven't even so much as injured these weirdos, much less kick them out, I can't say why. There's something recognisable about them but I can't put my finger on it.
Godspeed fixes me with an uncomfortable stare, his green eyes flashing with a contained anger. "I would greatly appreciate it if you didn't refer to the Fellowship as a cult. It's quite insulting, Samuelle, and we do not respond well to insults."
I narrow my eyes at the use of my full name. "Why are you even here? You better have a damn good explanation for following me, leaving me stuff, and then breaking into my house!" I end loudly.
